HI, we're getting ready to go out to Arizona for a vacation (and visit AL's family) and I wanted to wish all of you a nice week and weekend!!
We decided to fly instead of drive and are really glad we made that decision.
Anyway, lots of hugs to you all and if I don't get a chance to check email and all from out there, I'll talk to you guys when I get back!!

Hi Julie, hoping it cools down here for you! We were under heat advisory warnings for 2 days already this week. Official highs have been 108-110 I think, however, the temp gauge in my truck on the way home often reads 113-116 and it's pretty right on with the temp signs around the city.

thank you all for your well wishes on our trip! It was wonderful! We had a chance to visit the Desert Museum outside of Tucson, spend a wonderful Father's Day/Celebrate Sarah's b'day with Al's family on Sunday and then left for the Grand Canyon on Monday. The Grand Canyon is a sight to behold! It is simply breathtaking! We stayed at a lodge in the park and spent Monday and Tuesday sightseeing. Unfortunately, we also were able to see the flames/smoke from the fire around the Sedona area and that made me really sad. It was very clear that it is a huge fire even from the view from the highway.
Yesterday AM, since the youngest brother was able to come home for 2 days from Amelia Island, Al's parents arranged for family pictures to be made and that turned out nice!!! We flew out of Tucson yesterday PM and got home about 3:30 this morning. Restful day today!!
Lyn--it was VERY hot although I am not sure that it is comparable to the humidity we are having down here. I can really tell a difference. However, 112 degree temps and a dry heat at that felt like an inferno to me! I do love Arizona though. It is so pretty! I thought about you when we came through Phoenix coming and going from the Grand Canyon :)
Well, gotta finish doing laundry..I'm gonna try tonight to sit down and catch up on my email and the board! I missed you guys!

Julie, glad you are back with us. The Grand Canyon is beautiful-you should see it in the winter too with snow-totally different but just as beautiful. Sadly the Sedona fire is still burning strong and only 7% contained. We get our humidity in July and August with the monsoons-then we run 30-50% but don't necessarily get rain with it, plus we have the high temps. Seems hotter this year-even though the thermometer doesn't back that up-maybe because it is so very dry this year that it feels like an oven all the time!

Sounds like you had a great time with your family-I hope if you come back this way, we might meet up a bit! I'd love to meet some of the folks on the board in person.

Lyn--I'm pretty sure we're gonna come back out that way around Christmas--probably not actually during the holiday but before or right after. I would LOVE to meet you while we're there. If not Christmas, definately in the Spring. I would like to come out to AZ when it's not so hot. The last time I was out during winter was in 2002 and the other times it's been summer.
I have been trying to keep up with the latest news regarding the forest fires and it is just so sad. I haven't ever seen anything quite like that and what we saw was from the highway.
It's hot here but we have the humidity so I'm not sure which is worse--the increased humidity or the heat there.
Anyway, it is good to be home though. I have all of the laundry done and things back in order so that's a good thing!

Julie, we just got back from California. We flew over the Grand Canyon on the way out and it was an awesome sight from the plane, I can't imagine being on the ground seeing it. It is definitely GRAND in size.

Julie, be sure to let me know when you'll be out closer to tthe time and we can plan something. I've lived in the humidity and you're right, it's kind of a toss up as to which is worse, I don't like being wet all the time but sometimes the heat here just sucks the air right out you. Hoping we get some rain soon instead of jus the lightening storms.
