Beware anyone who has a paypal account. There are some very convincing looking emails going out to anyone who has paypal accounts. They even have links at the bottom to other sites to visit, etc. These emails are not from Paypal. Whatever you do don't respond or click on anything within the email. It is fraudulent, someone is trying to find out your personal information. I just received one and it looked so real. MaryW

There are 2 in Yahoo right now...one is an 'empty' e-mail and when you open it, it lets a worm into your Yahoo mail box and eats your address book. Another is an e-mail with " New Graphic Site", that carries a trojan into your computer.... It's not bad enough my husband is a veteran and we got THE LETTER from the VA about our info being stolen....and 3 yrs ago and one yr ago our info was stolen from the place our bank uses to store our info....we have to guard everything these days and it take up a LOT of time, money and effort. (I did our VA stuff BEFORE we got the letter..why wait...and I helped our neighbor do the same...) It also makes me mad.....good thing I'm not alone in my anger.... Chrys

Ebay or Paypal won't ask you to click on a link to "verify your information". And they always address you by your full name on your account. Always go to www.paypal.com or www.ebay.com and log into your account that way. Never click on a link. If you're not 100% sure, forward the entire e-mail to the spoof addresses, and they will tell you whether or not it was from them. photos.yahoo.com/greendragondesigns

All of these are excellent tips. For eBay, any important message will show up in your eBay account under "My Message". For paypal, accounts need attention will get the message on the account page. Like greendragonlady said, just to go eBay.com or paypal.com and log in to take care of business there. WHEN IN DOUBT, DON"T CLICK AND DON'T RESPOND. Another quick way to make sure is to move your mouse cursor over the link and wait for a second (DO NOT CLICK). On most browsers a link will show up on the bottom of the browser window. If the domain on the link is not something ending with *.ebay.com or *.paypal.com then it's a spam. Some spammer uses *.ebay.(spamdomain).com or *.paypal.(spamdomain).com so look carefully. Mary is right. It's amazing the length scammers will go nowadays. It's sad to see people not willing to work for proper cause. The energy and talent that go into these spams and scams could have earn them big bucks if they work for some high tech companies on anti-spam. What waste of talent! - Robin

About a year ago, I had my eBay and Hotmail accounts hijacked. Two expensive cars were listed in my name with ridiculously low buy-it-now prices ($4500 for a late model Corvette). It was partly my own fault because I was using the same UserID and password for both accounts. I was also using the same password for my PayPal account, but they didn't get into that one, I guess because it wasn't linked to my Hotmail account. Since that episode, I keep different e-mail accounts, UserIDs and passwords for eBay and PayPal and different passwords for each e-mail account. This makes it a little easier to spot spoof e-mails because they often are sent to the wrong e-mail account. If I see a PayPal e-mail in my eBay e-mail account, or vice versa, I know immediately it is a spoof and report it. I even have spoof e-mails coming to an e-mail account tied to neither! Ed |

Lately I've gotten several asking me to change my AOL information. These are also frauds. I don't know how many I've gotten saying that my banking information at X bank needs to be updated. Most of the time they are not banks we do business with but it certainly gives pause.

I've gotten quite a bit of spoof mail from both Ebay and Paypal (I am pretty sure they are owned by same company) and everytime I have gone to the site in a fresh internet window (never using the link in the email) logged in and gone to the area that you can email them and forwarded the spoof mail to them to make sure if its good or not. They respond back very quickly and it's always been a spoof. But I agree with you that it is important to change your passwords frequently!

Chrys, My dh is a vet also & we got the letter. Did they ever do anything to that nut that took stuff home that he shouldn't have ? They certaintly aren't training their people very good or he just didn't care. You can't trust anything anymore. Our mail gets put in others boxes at times & some we never get. I don't think being able to read is a requirement anymore. Also it must be a requirement to be stupid to get some of these jobs anymore. I know that sounds terrible but makes you wonder. Most cashiers don't even know how to count change back to you , just dump it in your hand. |

Boy, that is the truth. It is hard to screw up the change when the cash register gives you the amount that you are to refund. You want to see a cashier pull their hair out? Give them a 20 and a penny for something that was 1.01. I've even had a clerk give me my penny back plus 99 cents change! It's nuts!

What I hate worse than a cashier not counting the money back is having them hand you the receipt with a stack of bills into your hand, then a handful of change on top of that, and expecting you to get everything back to your wallet/purse/pocket without dumping anything on the ground. It's the worst at a drive-through window. Yesterday I had the girl put the bills in her hand with the coins on top, then she folded it together. When I got my hand back into the car all of the coins fell into my lap and on the floor. Maybe I should stop going to drive-through windows? photos.yahoo.com/greendragondesigns
