My mom has this little thing hanging in her kitchen she got years ago as a gift, it's a little pair of pants that's made out of 2 dishcloths. It has little yarn bows on it and a little poem with it, something about " I'm not so poor nor do I have riches, but I thought you would like this pair of britches. Just untie the yarn and pull out the stiches, you have 2 dishcloths, but you have lost your britches" It's really cute and I'd like to make it but since she lives in SC and I live in PA, I can't look at it right now to see how it's put together. Does anyone know what i"m talking about?

I had one given to me as a shower present. What are you wanting to find out?

Okay, I have one in front of me right now that a friend made for me.
Do you need to know how it's put together? Here goes...

Take 2 dish clothes and fold each one over once. Lay them facing with folds on outside edges. Looks like she then took a long piece of yarn and ran a running stitch across the top edge going through both cloths and gathered slightly to make the top of the britches. It's tied in a bow in the middle at the top. Then there's two smaller lengths of yarn below, one about 1/4 down the front and one about halfway down (at the crotch) the front that are tacking the 2 dishcloths together to form the pantaloon shape or "legs". She put the yarn through the front and back of the cloth, so they don't open up all the way like real pants would. They lay flat in the middle, but the waist does open up. Then she did a running stitch with the yarn on the bottom of each leg and tied bows.
The gathering stitches of yarn at the top of the pants, and on the bottom of the legs are about 1" from each edge, so when gathered it formed a slight ruffle.
I hope you can make some sense out of my instructions. :dave:

Here's the poem attached to mine:

Don't get excited
Don't be misled
These aren't for you
But for dishes instead
Take out two ribbons
Pull out the stitches
You've got two dish clothes
But lost your britches

I guess since the poem says "ribbons" you could use a narrow ribbon in place of the yarn.

Here is a link to a cute set of crochet britches, with a photo and the poem. They are a cute little gift.

I remember my mom having some of those and making them as I was growing up-she used them for shower gifts all the time. Cute idea.
