I just got this new toy 3D Sketch (http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us/1623_6853.htm). I was just wondering if anyone else has it and if you are having fun with it or if it is driving you crazy.

Don't have it, but played with it for quite a while at the dealer's. I don't think I want it, but for someone that doesn't want to bother with full digitizing - it might be fun.

That is exactly why I got it. I wanted to be able to do my own redwork and and I like the idea of the Calligraphy being of my own hand rather than a font from a computer (after all I did spend most of my middle school years learning and perfecting the art of beautiful writting). I also plan to use it to put my own handwriting to stitches. I have no interest in digitizing beyond that. So this was absolutely perfect for me.
I hope others come along who have this and can share my pain in mastering the pen and tablet.

If you are using a Wacom tablet, you can customize the feel, the switch, and the eraser to your satisfaction. You can also adjust the speed of the double click. I've got 2 tablets - an old ARTZ II and a newer Graphire. I've always found them much easier to use, but then I've had Graphic Arts training. And digitizing isn't too much different than editingdrawing path points in Photoshop or Illustrator. On the other hand, my husband is an engineer and still CAN'T figure out how to double click with the pen after 10 years.
Sketch is pretty straightforward and easy to use. Enjoy it - and show us some samples of your handwriting.

Gina, I love it. It is so simple to use that I had to try and complicate it. If it starts getting confusing you are doing something wrong. I even use it for simple digitizing projects instead of going to Digitizer. I expect Gromes will have in- depth classes on it after they go to training on it in Aug.

Tom,
I didn't buy it from Gromes  . I went in there the day Pfaff sent me an e-mail about it and they had no clue. They told me that I would have to buy like $1000 worth of other 3D software in order to use it  . I said "No I am pretty sure I can get it as a stand alone." Then I swung over to the Viking Dealer and she knew a lot more about it. Then I sat on it for a month or so and went back to Gromes and they said the same thing again and said it would be weeks before they could even order it for me, so I swung on back to the Viking Dealer and had it in less than a week. I am planning on attending the free class at the Viking dealer next month. I guess I am a dealers least favorite kind of customer, I tend to loose loyalty when I can get quicker and friendlier service elswhere.

Oh yeah it is fun!!! I have finally mastered that darn pen and tablet. I have been creating a lot of designs with it but haven't yet stitched them out. Once I do I will add them to my photo album in my signature and let you all know.

I just looked at sketch again. Would have to know a lot more about that Wacom tablet as I have an older professional one, and a Graphire, which are actually tablets that can be used for ALL applications. I'm not sure I can see paying for the special tablet since it ships with and adds to the cost when I have better ones. The dealer didn't have the tablet hooked up, so I was using the touchpad on a laptop. It worked.

Weezy,

Chances are your older professional one is a whole lot better than this one. If you do a search for Wacom Volito 2 you should be able to read about it. This is a European model so you won't find it at Wacom USA. If you really want the software why not just get it and sell the tablet on ebay or something.

Gina, You are absolutely right. While I will not neccessarily let price dictate where I shop I will allow customer service to do so. Have fun with Sketch.
