So far in the past 6 mnths. I've had 3 computer keyboards. (one shouldn't count, it came with the keys mashed in.) and 2 mice.
I haven't really broken anything, it's mostly old. (one mouse was 6 yrs old and one keyboard was 4).

I guess I'm just tired of buying stupid little things and them not working, showing up broken, and I can't seem to get it RIGHT. (my husband has decided than since this is MY computer, I must make all the choices. Which would be nice, if I knew what I was doing and could get what I WANT :throw: )
:bang: :bang: :bang:

Do you know how many keyboards they make ??? Big keys, small keys, keys that light up, keys you can change to any or no language (just symbols),
keyboards that you can roll up in a tube shape. Keyboards in 1,2,3 and 4 pieces. (some of'em look like puzzles :nervous: ), you can get lefthanded ones with or with out mirrored number pads. Flat ones, fat ones, wavy ones, black, white, multi colored, designer ice white (for your new MAC).

My all time fav keyboard to type on all night long, was my Commodore 128.
Keys were fat, in the right place for me (far apart) and was indistructable.
But this was back in the 80's....I actually typed till all the keys were blank, but since I touch type, no problem... ::heavy sigh::

HAHAHA Chys, My hubbie is an IT guy and before him I never owned a computer. Now I own an entire wall of them..none of which are plugged in, some have the guts hanging out of them and god forbid I suggest cleaning them out and throwing away the useless ones. As a joke I took one he had hallowed out and put the cat litter pan in it. For a few days he dod not notice then I hear this UHG!!! from the laundry room..I knew. and I laughed.

But yes I think they make them to break now a days. I have a dell at work and the key board is junk. I constantly take it apart and clean it with those air cans. but it doesnt really help. My bosses laptop wouldnt recocnize L the other day, it thought it was the 3 button. So heres to you :throw:

You see Crys, it's those Klingon crystals - ditch the PC get a Mac! Don't let Bill Gates rule the world.

I have to say that computer keyboards are close to being my best friend since I've spent the last 35+ years of my life (8 hours a day - 5 days a week +) on a computer keyboard earning a living and I've used a lot of different keyboards in that period of time (manual typewriters, electric typewriters, mag cards, key punch, wang, etc. up to today's present computer at home and office) and I think I've had maybe one or two of those that gave me any problems. I've never seen one wear out and my latest one is a black laser ergonomic Logitech keyboard that I love with a laser mouse. My dh is a geek and builds computers (not for a living but as a hobby). In fact, he just finished building the network in his company but he goes for the expensive high tech boads and not the gimmicky or cool looking ones.

Back in the early 80s I had this computer like thing -- something like a laptop. Very small with a screen only about 3 inches -- that I wrote on it at home and then hyper termed the story to the paper.
It was wonderful because it allowed me to work at home. Things are better now with real computers and email.
But, anyway, one time my computer like thing ran out of Rs. It did everything else fine but would not produce an R.
It was difficult to write without any Rs and I had to take it in for repairs.

Chrys - you sound like my daughter. she could go thru a keyboard a month. I finally gave her an OLD IBM clicker (from the late 80's? - so old the Fkeys are down the side) She's had that one for 2 years. I try to find the old IBMs. They are usually a buck apiece and you can get a whole one from 2 or 3 rejects.
I have 2 of them and am looking for another. I knew daught would have a problem when I saw her shake a 9 ft concert grand with the opening of the "Pathetique" and she was only 9 or 10!
For the mice - try an optical mouse. That ball on the others is a pain.

I agree with weezy on the optical mouse. Since I started using them a few years back, have not looked elsewhere since (these seem to last forever since there's no ball to get dirty and caught). My mom keeps her computer in the dinning/kitchen area and used to have a hard time keeping her mouse alive. Last time I visited, I brought an optical one for her and it's been working nonstop since.

I've had an optical mouse for yrs....wouldn't trade it...
I found a place that makes keyboards for people like me (my husband informs me I hit the keys too hard...I'm not that big a person and this is the first time in 21 yrs I've had more than one keyboard...so I'm thinking it's the cheap keyboards...)

www.keytronicsEMS.com

or www.amazon.com (will sell them for $30. less.... :bg: )

My advice

Buy the cheapest, plainest keyboard you can get. It will probably work better and last longer then all the gimicy ones. And if it stops working you have not invested all that money in the gimick. That and vacum your keyboards regularly.
