Has any one made a poodle skirt before?? My daughters BD is in november and I am thinking of doing a 50's theme because she wants a poodle skirt soo bad. BUT I thought if the poodle skirts werent too hard I would "whip" a few up as the party gifts for all the girls to wear and have a drive through type look going on and a sleep over. I was trying to find cheap lacy bobby socks so if anyone knows how to make thos I would appreciate that as well!! Any thoughts on this hair brained Idea?? Stephi

There are patterns in the costume section of the pattern books for poodle skirts-shouldn't be hard to do, usually made out of felt with lots of krinolins underneath. I believe there was a thread on this not too long ago-you might try the search option.

OK so I ordered my pattern from my favorite ebay pattern seller. And I am going to the 50% off sale this weekend at joannes to get some felt. I will probobly get the pattern sat or mon so I will get a few done...My D saw a pink glitter felt when we ran in to get black felt to make a sheep for VBS, so thats what I am sure she will want. I think a bunch of 4 and 5 yo running around in poodle skirts will be cute!! I ordered nugget/popcorn boxes from oriental trading to put a few other goodies in or maybe just some real nuggets for the drive through theme. I have until november so I wont have to rush but I love planning parties. I am thinking a 60's theme for the 6yo birthday next year, LOL!!! Thanks for the info!!! Stephi

When I was a little girl my teenage sister had a party where the girls all made poodle skirts and decorated them that night. It was a BLAST. Since it was Christmas season the girls put Christmas trees, snow men, bells, holly wreaths, instead of a leash many of them had strings of "lights". These girls actually cut the skirts and put them together that night but there wouldn't be any problem with using elastic in the waist (some patterns have that) and then letting them decorate or help you decorate the skirts.

What a great idea for a party. Too bad my DD's 8th b'day was last week. There is always next year. |
