I would like to make some little gifts to sell. I was thinking of bags for teenage girls and embroider on them. I just want some ideas and wish I could think of something that would be a big seller. Have any of you talented ladies got any ideas that I could consider making. thanks. Buttons

Denim messenger bags would be good. Check out the teen magazines and see what's hip right now. I'm sure by seeing what my 6 nieces are wearing they will be silly. Check here for teen mags online http://www.ccpls.org/html/teens/teen_mags.html

Take pictures to share with us.

I first saw this on my friends desk. she owns a quilt shop and gets tons of stuff from fabric manufacturers.
RJR is trying to get more teens, 20 and 30 somethings to sew and Love it too. They have a whole line of Way cool and hip fabrics and you must check out this web www.makeitu.com for ideas, projects ect...
anyhoo though it was great (!!) and you might just love it too.
oh ps, not affiliated or any thing like that just really really liked what I saw.

My 15 turning 16 teen loves bags or purses, she loves them simple style lines, not too much in embroidery. If you did do embroidery think stylin' stuff with bling! The Embroidery Library had a few she really liked with flip flops, funky shoes & purses, but add crystals things to add sparkle (that bling!). Then don't forget pockets in the purses for cell phones, MP3 players, etc that they carry to school these days. Or my other daughter, 19 going to college, likes smaller things to carry, she wants simple to carry her cell phone in, MP3 player, her laptop, etc. She doesn't really carry a purse, but throws a few small items over her shoulder, across her chest, or sometimes likes to clip them to her beltloops. She likes wild fun fabrics, animal prints type prints, something different & fun - they aren't in the corporate world yet and girls just want to have fun :bg: Look at Paris Hilton - that is someone that my youngest teen loves

Pajama sets. My one sister is 12 going on 25, and she just loves any sort of pajamas - especially pants - super comfy is the best. Actually she likes them so much she wants me to teach her how to sew them this summer. My other sister is in college and she also lives in pajama pants. She really likes those sets with spaghetti straps - but the pants even get worn to classes. Just a thought. I know you said bags, but.....

Why don't you go some place near where you want to market your bags and see what the teen crowd is buying?
You would probably get a better idea that way of what will sell than asking here.
Ask some local teen girls what they think. If that is your target market you need to study it. That is a basic rule for making a business plan because it is effective.

I will 2nd the pj pants, we make them around here - in flannel backed satins & flannels plus there is boxer shorts! But not to school at least at the high school, the district banned pj wear to school. The kiddos do love wearing them around the house though, I don't let them out in them, don't think it correct attire - so you can imagine that it being banned at the school was not an issue for us, it wasn't allowed for my dd's any way

I've made cell-phone cases. Just do a search at google.com. Every teenager wants a cell phone.

I would 3rd the PJ's. But another good Idea for college/teen age is lap top bag witha place for all those wires to go too. Maybe matching accesories for them too like purse and/or cell phone holder. I had a cute mead note book cover a friends mom had made me in high school that I used until it dissentigrated...That might also be another Idea cheap and quick to make

they like their PJs. I think PJs with a stovepipe leg and butt-gusset are fun and flattering.

butt gusset? That sounds funny.

Yeah - only my college age sis wears hers to class (at least she makes it to the class!!) but my younger sisters (I have 5 in case ya'll are confused) love the satin with flannel inside.

Cell phone holder is also cool - think "mod" colors - I would look at "Sew you,Sew Fun" fabrics as they're designed for the teen set (check out eQuilter.com if you can't find them anywhere else. The designer is kinda new).

My 13 year old and her friends love pj pants!! Right now capri length with lace at the bottoms. Pillow cases are big, too. Appliqued and "froofed". And lap sized blankets to match with something super soft and fuzzy on the other side. And they love seeing their names on things. She has the cutest cell phone purse that one of her friends made. It is slightly larger than her cell phone. The bag itself is 2 layers of sateen with batting in between. Then randomly placed all over - like a collage - are vintage looking buttons, beads, lace, ribbon, and ribbon flowers. The handle is satin ribbon covered with lace and it hangs just below her waist. Too cute!! My dd took some of my fabric and ribbon scraps and "quilted" a cheap wooden picture frame (1.00 at Michaels). She glued it all, no actuall sewing. Now all her buds want her to make them one, too.

Check out the crafster forums (http://www.craftster.org/forum/) for tons of great ideas - most made by teens and early twentysomethings themselves.

Thanks so much for all the wonderful ideas. I really appreciate all of them. Now I have to plan what I'm going to make. My daughter is 18 and I get a lot of good ideas from her too. I did make her a pair of P.J. pants and she loves them and she has actually made hereself a couple prs. It's always great to get fresh ideas and thanks again. Buttons :Canada:

I recently made some "bootie bags". It's purses made from the top of old blue jeans. Most that I've seen have beaded handles, but I made fabric handles using scraps from the legs so they would be stronger. My daughter and neice carry way too much in their purses.
My teenaged daughter, neice, and their friends love them.
I added sequined tie-on belts to mine that I got on clearance for $1 each. They liked the idea of being able to change out the belt.
One of them I put butterfly patches on the back pockets. I lined them all
with bright fabrics.

Do a "bootie bag" search on google. You'll find lots of ideas.

Thanks, that's a great idea. I've seen some cute ones on the web previously. They look like they may be hard to make. I'll have to try it. I've done other ones something like that before. Buttons
