Hello all, I was asking my 3 yr old what she'd like to be for Halloween (I know, it's a tad early!). She wants to be Cinderella this year. I'd like to dress my son up in a matching costume. I am wondering if anyone knows where I can find a pattern for Prince Charming (I've actually seen a costume online for the prince, but it was $75!!!!) My son is only one, so it would need to be 18 or 24 mo. My other idea (well my husband's) was to make him Gus Gus. :) Any ideas on hwo we could pull that one off? Thanks for the info!

We where cinderella last year.

I think Gus Gus would be cuter!! Make a brown PJ outfit and add a tail and ears. Then if I remember correctly gus gus has an orange vest and green hat?? that would be pretty darn simple!!

I think we are going to be Dora dressed as a cat this year.... Darn those popular kids shows, LOL!!

Thank you. Yes, I do think that Gus Gus would be cuter. :) And right now, my son has that total pot belly thing going, so he would almost need some brown bottoms and no top (unless it's cold, we just moved to Turkey, so I am not sure what the Oct weather is like here!) I guess I'll start working on Gus Gus. :)

Dora will be cute. Are you going to make it or buy it? I think I am buying Cinderella, but Darn the disney store for making the girls' costumes so expensive. I am thinking of going to ebay for it! She was Minnie the year before last and her costume was $60 (my friend's son went as mickey and his was only $20!!!).

Good luck! :)

I think I will be making this one. My daughter likes when I make her stuff now so I will take advantage of that.

Yes we bought cinderella last year I think I paid about 25-30 bucks for it. but that was only the dress. By the end of the night it was filthy and soaking wet because it had rained the night before. :nervous:

I make the kids costumes and quite a few other ones every year. They just seem so bloody expensive - I mean $70 for a flimsy costume that 3 other girls on the block are going to wear!!!! Then again I live in CA and milk is over $3.50 a gallon, and so is gas so.....it may just be perspective.

Last year the oldest was a bat (super easy), the middle a pumpkin, and the baby a spider. The year before that the boys went as Thing 1 and Thing2 (also super easy) and I made 2 costumes for 2 of my sister's: one was Earth and the other Fire. They all liked them because I bought hair color stuff that they could all use (especially the boys- blue hair and all.)

Personally I'm a big fan of Gus Gus. As a small hint - maybe you could put "gus" on his shirt so people get it. My sister got all upset when she had a fairy costume and everyone thought she was a princess....she kept saying,"Um, no. i have wings." :dave: He wore a yellowy/green shirt and hat - kinda like an elf hat. I suppose you could get some felt, and roll it in a cone shape for the right shape.

On the other hand, Prince Charming wouldn't be that difficult either. I mean, it depends on how high your standards are, but if it were MY kiddo, I'd use tights (or PJ bottoms) and probably a cotton turtleneck. Then I'd make a tunic to go over it. Sort of a big loose t-shirt shape. And you can get as fancy as you want, but I'd use felt (no hemming!) and "applique" a fancy picture on the front using more felt and iron-on fusing stuff.

It wouldn't be a ton of work for one night, and it would still be durable to play in if he was interested afterwards. You could add a hat if you want, or not. If your son was a bit older, I'd recommend a toy sword, but I'd pass on that at his age.

Just be careful ironing felt, because I had some melt on my iron. It was one of those sheets you buy at the craft stores. Now I use a press cloth with it, and there's not problem.

I always make my dd's costumes. I just can't bring myself to pay the store prices and like Mrs. Snuggly said, everyone else has the same costume. My oldest was Cinderella a couple of years back. I use the same dress pattern over and over again - it was originally for a snow white dress, and I just keep changing the fabric. For Cinderella we found a pale blue brocade at Walmart for very cheap. Then I made one of those tall cone princess hats with tulle sticking out the end. We also made a choker for her to wear. She looked awesome and original! She's 9 and still likes me to make her costumes, so I'll keep at it while she'll still let me  Just another idea for you.

So I know you've probably already started but I've been mulling this over and I don't think prince charming has to be all that hard. Here's my idea (kinda more prince charming from sleeping beauty):

Black sweat pants (to stary warm) or hunter green, and a matching turtleneck. Then make a long tunic style (think rectangle with a hole in the center - a cheap cotton or fleece would work great.) cut out with oniking sheers (no hemming) and you could make a gold, yellow, red or purple (royal colors) fleur de leis (sp?) or other chest plate then a red cape which is just a red triangle and velcro. Schnazzy hat is optional.....oh, and you could always have him carry a flower or a clear plastic shoe or something.

Another thought is that prince charming from cinderella wears red pants (sweats are easy) and a white jacket at the ball. You could always shop around thrift stores for a used christening jacket or something and just sew on gold at the shoulders. I have 2 sets of tails - but not for an 18 mth old.
Well, just incase you're still thinking about prince charming....
