Well, we've made it!
We did 16 hours driving (with pit stops & a non-stop DVD player) and then got a decent night's rest in Fayetteville, NC. It seems Ramada will take dogs so they got to have a good night of sleep too. I've got to admit my dd was a real trooper throughout the whole trip. I have a CD of the group Simple Plan and there's one song she LOVES so I lost count after the 20th time playing it.
We got down on Friday night and while I went to the Insurance Company for our homeowners' insurance policy my dh went to the mortgage company to get things started. We were running SOOOO late - the gal from the insurance company said that she'll wait inside her van with the receipt book if she had to (in case the building needed to be locked up). The mortgage company was also backed up so we had to wait anyway. We didn't start our closing till 6:30pm!
Now to find someone who can do early morning babysitting for our dd. I have to be in the O.R. and ready to work at 6:30am so I need to leave at 5:30am but the daycare doesn't open until 6:30am. DH is travelling so he can't do it. Any ideas?
Will be awhile before I'm back on - I'm using my dh's computer at his office.
- Maureen.

RE sitter. When I ran into this situation, I had a student who slept over and got my children off to school. It helped that I was teaching nursing and had 1/2 a class full of students on the opposite shift than I. Perhaps there is a high school near by. I once got a truly excellent student by talking to a high school councellor. You could also ask other nurses in the OR if they have teens or older.

Good luck

Or a neighbor who doesn't work outside the home...One of my neighbors does this for some of the women with little kids. Her's are 19-17 and she doesn't work...so she babysits...

Another neighbor babysits one kid who's Dad works full time (Mother lost the boy to him in custody.) She has two small girls....

Welcome to FL...beware the heat and bugs...drink plenty of water and buy LOTS of bug spray...

Maybe you can find a 'grandmother' to sit..I know some cities have grandparent programs, so they pair older with younger. (since we have a LOT of retirees here...)

My college aged daughter is home for the summer and she signed up on a website that advertises babysitters. I don't know if it's nationwide or not, but it would make sense that it is. The sitters can put in their price range so that you know the cost up front. She has gotten several babysitting jobs from this. I hope this the right website--my daughter isn't here for me to ask right now but here goes: www.sittercity.com

Good luck!

I'm glad you arrived safely. Have you checked with any other day care centers? I've heard of some in larger towns that are even open for parents who work night shifts.

I'm glad you guys had a nice trip and arrived in Fl safely!! Good luck with the sitter situation! I know you will find someone that is just perfect!! When I was looking for someone to take care of Sarah I put in a request at one of the local colleges as they have a list of college students looking to babysit. Ended up not returning to work at that time and finding by chance a lady who keeps Sarah in her home (has been a Godsend) so I never did use any of the students although they all had wonderful references, etc.
Do drink lots of water down here as Chrys said! The humidity will get you alot quicker than you can imagine.
I hope you enjoy your job and your new home!! :)

Welcome to FL...beware the heat and bugs...drink plenty of water and buy LOTS of bug spray...
I second all that.. lol

I hear that if you rub your clothes/body/hair with fabric softner sheets it will keep the bugs away.

We just went the other night to the Mets Training Stadium for fireworks.. my daughter got TORE UP by bugs, she was layered in OFF.. so much for that idea!!!

Welcome to Florida though!
How you like the humidity so far????lol

Well, I put an ad in the Ft. Myers Press for an early morning babysitter and not thinking I may not get too many calls, I asked that it run for 10 days. I've been getting a minimum of 7 calls a day for the position! Sure, there were some that I automatically deleted and a few I called back for interviews. I ended up choosing a girl who had moved down from New York (she lived about 30 minutes from where I used to live in NY) and has daycare experience (checked her references). I had her over for the second time last night to meet my dd and my dh. She's 22 and had excellent references for people she worked for.
Gotta go, my dh needs to leave the office so I need to sign off for now.
