Today I chatted up hubby and asked him to get down two old suitcases from on top of the spare room wardrobes, on the grouds that if they hadn't been down and opened for years they must be full of stuff we could get rid of.

We didn't have a clue what was in them, so what a lovely surprise to find HEAPS of fabric I'd bought about 12 years ago! Liberty of London used to have a mill shop up in Lancashire, and I'd stocked up when it closed, packed the stuff away and forgot all about it (probably as the new baby took up all of my attention). Lots of fine Liberty Lawn in pretty little ditsy patterns - and some pre-cut quilting squares. My Tiny Tears doll was also in there, two Pelhams puppets and a beautiful rag doll I've had for about 30 years. I probably last used some Liberty Lawn in 1996 as I used to make DD little pinafore dresses out of them with big, wide, sashes that did up with a bow on the back, but obviously not out of this stash as there are no matching scraps or bits I'd cut out by mistake (I always keep those as you never know.....).

Has anyone else had a rummage in a cupboard or a box or a case and found something they had completely forgotten about?

Wow - I wish I could find some Liberty lawn, much less heaps stored away! I think it has been over 40 years since I have been in a shop that carried it. I went back to a shop in Montreal I knew would carry some some several years ago and the shop was gone. I almost cried. It had also carried wonderful Irish linen and when I was married my trouseau, just as it was, was linen suits, dresses and jackets, etc. This was the Jackie O period of my life. I still have some scraps of a gorgeous paisley velvet. I almost scalped my daughter one year when I found her about to cut the velvet to put behind a hole she had purposely made in a pair of jeans.

As far as finding something that I had forgotten about - it happens everyday, and I probably put away the day before yesterday . I would like to find some things I know I have but don't seem to know where they are - like a watch and a digital camera, I don't seem to be able to find, yet I remember putting them somewhere where I was sure to remember.

Goddess - enjoy those fabrics for all of us!

Wow, what a treasure you have. There was only ever one outlet in Halifax that carried Liberty of London and they have been out of business for years. I think you should really start stitching up some of that lovely fabric.

I've been finding tons of fabric since I have been tiding up my shelves.
This whole stash thing is getting out of hand.

Yep...I'm like Dorothy...I find something new everytime I open my cupboard doors and start looking through my stash. This week I had a notice about a 30% off sale at my local quilt shop...I told myself NO, not until I sew up some of the stuff I have. I made it thorough the weekend without going...Boy that was hard!

I went one winter and made all my friends hand muffs with hot hands inserts in them for christmas one year. I bought tons of that flannel cute PJ type material and went crazy...actually sold a few too!! BUt I was cleaning through some of my plastic "stash" drawers and ran across about 10 yards of the material. I am thinkinng of making my D a coat with matching muff.

My mind is still some where in one of those drawers Im sure, LOL!!

I love finding stuff I had forgot about. Maybe I'll find something if I get around to cleaning out my sewing room.
I did find $20 in the pocket of some jeans the other day. I hadn't worn them in over a month and don't remember leaving it in them.

Mary, was that Goodmans on Spring Garden? I loved that store, bought my wedding gown lace there, $100 for one metre, I used every bit!
