Has anyone seen a pattern for the purses made from the tops of discarded jeans. They usually have a beaded handle and belt.

I know what you mean but haven't seen a pattern for one. I made some purses with the legs of jeans and the pocket as the flap and the hard inseem used as the handle. I got the pattern out of one of the sewing magazines.
I'm regressing back into my youth, I just have to figure out how I'm going to convience my body to come along with me.

I love how things come back around. I was making purses from jeans about 12-15 years ago when my girls were young, the girls and their friends loved them. I just cut the legs off stiched the bottom edge of the top piece closed, made a handle from a leg piece and embellished with appliques, buttons, etc.

I've made some of these without a pattern. I just cut off the legs at the crotch, turned them wrong side out, and stitched. Then I stitched at each corner to form a bottom for the bags. I then measured the bags to make a fabric liner for each one, as each pair of jeans was a slightly different size. I stitched the top of those in by hand. I made fabric handles from the legs for mine. I thought they would hold up better than the beaded handles.
Added a belt and some embellishment to some of the pockets. Too cute!

I saw some instructions on crafters.org for a no-sew version made using a glue-gun, but I prefer sewing mine.
Alot of the bags on ebay have plastic panels in them to make them more rigid, but I think they're cuter with a "rounded butt".

I found my daughter's size 1 and 2 juniors are a perfect size for the "bootie bags." I have about 30 pairs collected for making more. Guess what her friends are getting for Christmas?
I'm working on a tote bag made from one of her mini skirts. I'm keeping that one for me.

 Thanks for all the good info. My teenage daughter has just handed over a jean skirt that she out grew (and you know how short those are now). Thought that I would give it a go.

If you have larger size jeans 20+ they are a good size for bags to attatch to walkers for adults. My DD made one for my Mother in Law. She uses it when she goes out to carry her stuff. she loves all of the pockets.
