The July/August issue of Threads has a pretty good article on lining garments. However, the author advises that old fashioned wax tracing paper be used to mark the seam lines. Now, I really liked this type of tracing paper, but I haven't been able to find it in ages. Does anyone know where to get this type of tracing paper? I don't like the chalk paper because it gets all over the place. So, it would be neat if I could find the wax tracing paper again:)

Thanks!

I have this one, which is a tracing paper (http://joann.com/catalog.jhtml?CATID=82298&PRODID=47475) which makes a disappearing mark. It feels kind of like the felt inside a magic marker, but the ink disappears within a day or two, or faster if you wipe it with a damp cloth. Also just learned that it comes in single-sided and double-sided, so you could mark 2 layers at once. I found mine in a local, better fabric shop. that same local shop carried the wax one you're referring to, with a few different colors included in a single package, and it was a bit more expensive. I did not find that online just now when I searched Joann.com though. Good luck.

I don't know about wax tracing paper, but I use this http://www.misterart.com/store/view/001/group_id/114/Saral-Transfer-Tracing-Paper.htm for my quilting. It is a bit expensive but I like it. I get it at my locate art supply store.

I found this at Hanckocks. It doesn't say if it is wax or chalk.

Thanks for your help! It looks like the "old" paper I have--now in tatters:). I will drop by there tomorrow and see if it is what I am looking for--I'll let you know!

I went to Hancock's today and got the tracing paper (wax based). I also looked at the disappearing marking paper and I think I will try that the next time I go into the store to shop. One thing I know for sure, that chalk based paper is history! Thanks again, everyone. :bluesmile

Oh my goodness! I never thought that my wonderful Dritz tracing paper might become extinct! I have had it for about 20 years. Yikes, I will run out tomorrow to Hancocks and buy all they have. LOL I, like Dorothy, started sewing 1000 years ago and can not imagine using a different paper to trace.
I love these threads.
Thanks,
Molly

Thanks for the offer, Barb. I found what I was searching for at Hancock's. I don't know where on earth I bought that chalk based tracing paper (probably Wal-Mart), but I do know I really liked the wax-based paper and I am glad that I can still find it. That is, unless Molly corners the market

Sorry I read your post wrong I thought you didn't want the wax. I will just put it back in the drawer. I am sure one of my kids will use it.

Say, I really appreciate your help! No need to apologize. Thanks for your responses. What type of marker/tracing paper do you like the best? You may have stated that somewhere, but I am in a state of confusion (I think that is pretty much where I stay  _ right now. I bought a new machine this week and I am hoping to get my current project finished so that I can "play" next week when my machine arrives.

I use chalk or a disappearing marker. I don't make many things that actually need marking. I do a lot of T-shirts & elastic waist pants/shorts. When I do mark darts & pleats I usually just mark 2 or 3 spots & then match it up.

I'm not "smart" enough to make easy stuff  But, I would like to make T-shirts. I have all this really great equipment in my sewing room and don't have a clue about how to really use their features. I have a wonderful serger that I am sure would be great for t-shirt material, and I haven't even tried it yet. I don't know what my problem is. Seems that I get attached to one or two venues and don't get out of them. Maybe you will be my inspiration with the t-shirt knit.

OK, I controlled myself at Hannocks yesterday and only bought 2 packs of the tracing paper. It was made by Singer but other then that it is identical to the old Dritz paper.
However, today Hannocks had a huge sale and I went nuts. I spent 3 hours in heaven touching fabric and dreaming up ideas.
Gale, what kind of a new machine did you order?
I ordered a Brother NV 1000 over 2 weeks ago and it still has not come in.
I was told when I put now my deposit that in would arrive in one week.
Patience is not my strong suit.
