I've never done it on large scale. I have done it to refine a fit on a garment but I've never designed a garment from scratch by draping.

I think draping is something that needs to be learned from an expert. It can't be explained by words only.

Are you doing drapes or are you draping a dress

I have never done draping, but my brand-new not-read-yet September 2006 Sew News has an article on page14 that would be a good place to start. The August issue gives directions for making a custom-made form that this writer uses.

Good Luck

It's an interest of mine as well. The books written on the topic are fashion design _text_ books, and so they cost $80 and up and aren't found in most public libraries. This is why the topic got bumped down on the priority chain.

There is a pretty popular textbook on draping called "Draping for Fashion Design" that can be quite expensive. I have finally got one recently off eBay. It took quite a while to find one that went for a price that I would pay. Sad thing is that I have not really given it a try yet. I hope at some point soon to build a duck-tape double and try my hand at draping.

I just purchased that $80 book for my daughter. Her major is apparel studies. I didn't even get to look at the book, but when she brings it home at the end of the year, I intend to read up on this subject. Perhaps she'll even give me a tip or two.

Would I love to have a peek inside "that book".
