Here it is.
The skirt is a beautiful textured linen. The ladies are cut from cotton. The wavy lines are chains done with the serger.
I'm feeling a little pleased with myself right now.
Here is front, back and a close up so you can get a better idea.

Very nice Dorothy. You'll look really spiffy when you interview the mayor :dave:

I love the fabric, just love it; the serger chains were a great solution to tying the ladies together in the design.

That's great Dorothy! How did you affix the ladies and serger chains?

The chains are just stitched right on the fabric with my serger's chain stitch. The ladies were sewn on with a very short, very narrow zig zag -- almost a button hole stitch.
I backed them with a very light weight knit interfacing first and used that iron on stuff with the paper backing to hold them in place.
When I do this kind of thing I vary the weight of the backing from nothing (leaves them very flat) to a heavier interfacing (makes them pop more) and the vary the stitch, depending on the look I want. I often skip the paper backed stuff but I used it with these because they are a little thin around the legs and arms.
This reminded me of playing with paper dolls when I was a little girl. I would spend hours designing paper doll clothes with my crayons.
I was an only child.

OK Dorothy I have to ask(keep in mind that it is 3 in the morning). Do you hang things on the hangers under your cutting table or is that just where you store the empty ones? Either way it is a neat idea.

Gina,
That cutting table is also an ironing table and when I iron my clothes I just put the hanger under there -- so what you are seeing is my messy house!
Thanks for noticing.

Cute and innovative idea for a skirt. Bet it was a fun project to work on. Now, if you get an embroidery machine, just think of all the fun you will have.
Happy Stitching!

Dorothy,

I have the same table and I was a being serious when I said it was a neat idea. Since I sew mostly kids cloths (a yard or less) I was thinking that would be a great place to hang the fabric after I wash and iron it.

I got so hung up on the hangers last night that I forgot to say how much I like your ladies. Those chains are pretty cool. Makes me want to go out and get a new serger that does the chain stitch.

I love them. I do like chic stuff like that eventhough the guys here at my work would die if they saw me in anything other than jeans and a tee  I think you should make a bolero style jacket to match it with the chians around the sleeves!! ANd yes maybe a matching purse with one of the ladies on it. Hmm...The brilliance flows when Im not the one sewing

So, I have to admit that when I saw the subject I was thinking a bra or something like that (I knew someone who used that for their slang, yeah I know weird people). And I was just thinking why would I want to see someone else's bra?
But, having seen it, that is an absolutely adorable skirt! Are they an applique patch or is it cut out from fabric? Either way it is absolutely adorable. I LOVE IT!

Hey, Who needs "Project Runway" when we have OUR OWN talent right here!!! I love your work Dorothy.
I noticed the hangers also, I have my extras hanging off one of the legs of my Ironing Board for storage, but you did give me a idea about where to store my Interfacings neatly, Thanks!!!!!! :bg:

P.S. If we have our own "P.R."- please no one become Santino!!!!! :nervous:

OK guys --
I'm making a shell top out of a light grey loosely woven linen to wear with it, although I do have a couple other things that will go.
As for the bag -- I already made that and it goes to work with Jan.
I do appreciate all the comments though.
The ladies are cut from fabric, Ticia.
And the hangers -- I guess I should put something on them.
