Is anyone up for a decorative thimble swap? You know, the kind you can buy on the souvineer rack of your local city or state? I'm thinking a one-on-one swap unless enough people sign up that want to swap with multiple people for a variety.

I would be up for it. I have a large printer's typecase on my wall with hardly anything in it! It's just screaming for some thimbles.

I'll join-depending on when we do it. I'll be out of town the last week of July and the first week of August but other than that I think it would be fun.

Cshortsew, is your avatar the autism puzzle ribbon?

Yes it is. I teach Pre-kindergarten children who have autism or developmental delays and it has kinda become a passion of mine as autism now affects 1 in every 166 children and there is no absolute cause or cure.
Here is an explanation of the ribbon:

Autism Awareness Ribbon

The puzzle pattern of this ribbon reflects the mystery and complexity of autism.
The different colors and shapes represent the diversity of people and families living with this disorder.
The brightness of the ribbon signals hope – hope through research and increasing awareness in people like you.

I"ll get off my soapbox now, but thanks for letting me share

September works for me....does it have to be something from your state or is it any decorative thimble? I'm headed out for vacation next week and thinking I might be able to find something then.

I'd like to join as well!! My husband just bought my first thimble for me since I've started quilting! Sounds like a really fun swap! Julie
Cshortsew--I have triplet nephews (age 3) with autism and I recognized the avatar as well. I have learned ALOT about it through my SIL. They have the stickers and bracelets that say "autism awareness." I think it's a condition that needs to be recognized and more people know about it! Thank you for explaining the colors/pattern in the ribbon!

Yes it is a condition that needs to be recognized more. There is a lot more effort being made now that it has become so prevelant and the fact that people in the spotlight/media are being affected by it has also drawn attention. I believe the chairperson of NBC has a grandson with autism and he and his wife have become involved with the organization "Autism Speaks/National Alliance for Autism Research". In south Florida where I live Dan Marino (former Miami Dolphin) opened a therapy center because his son has autism. My daughters and I all have the ribbon magnet on our cars and I'm always ready to talk about it. My daughters don't have as much info as I do but they are willing to talk too. when they have the opportunity. My youngest has gone as far as telling a rude cashier in a store to stop talking about an autistic child who was having a melt down in the store. She made me proud. Ok, I'll stop rambling now. Your family has my admiration raising triplets with autism.

THREE CHEERS FOR YOUR DAUGHTER!!!!!! It just floors me to see adults act so ignorant to the problems of "phyically or mentally challanged" people. I was born with a birth defect and know first hand how rude they can be and still are to this day. Sometimes I just want to knock their heads together to see if anything comes loose inside of it!!!!! But what really gets me is that they don't stop to think #1 how they make that person feel. #2 what they are teaching THEIR children or children within earshot of their remarks. Children with the challenge don't really know yet that they can tell that person or persons to go jump in a River. Believe me I have done it a few times and loved watching the "J@#$$" stop dead in their tracks with my comeback, and I do it very nicely. I don't try to stoop to their level of Stupidy.
My dad always told me that I was a "Very Special Gift" sent to he and my mom from God. There was another baby born at the same Hospital that I was born at with a similar defect and the father was having fits about his "deformed baby", my Dad took him aside and told him how lucky he was to be given such a child and to count his blessings.

CShortSew-good for your daughters! We need more like them in this world. I always wonder why some people are so insensitive and rude.

I'm ready for the thimble swap-found a great one on vacation in CO-in a place I hadn't expected to find one! When will signups be?
