Pam it's 108 here in Midwest City. For those that don't know, Midwest City is about oh say 15 miles west of Harrah, OK where Pam lives. Our blinds are all closed, all the ceiling fans are on high. We're not even allowing the doggie to run in and out her dog door cause the heat leaps in when she opens it to go out. The thermometer on our patio says it's 115 at this point. All I know, is that it is very, very hot!!!

Pam and Patsy, I was out on a jobsite early this morning, and at 9:00 it was already 85. It hit 100 by noon. I was trying to clean windows on a new custom home being built, but the water would dry off the glass before I could scrape the paint off with my razor. I quit for the day at noon (what was the point?) and because I ran out of water. The power shut off yesterday afternoon, so we didn't even get the ceiling fan movement. It's just plain hot everywhere. Pam, my chocolate in my truck is also melted, so I can sympathize with your crisis. I'm having one too!! Joni

I don't know how hot it was here -- but it was hot.
With the door shut to cut off half the house, air conditioning blasting and a fan aimed at me the sewing room was the coolest in the house.
I did go into town for a quick interview and the air conditioner in the Mini is fantastic.
Cooking dinner in the half of the house cut off from the ac was awful, but I made quick work of that and grabbed the chair in front of the ac when we sat down at the table before my husband could get it.
Lucy the dog is finally getting a run this evening. She didn't even want out today -- it was too hot for her.
Every state in the lower 48 but North Dakota hit at least 90 today.
But, you know what, hot as it is you don't have to shovel it and that is my standard for complaining about the weather.
And the ac in my bedroom is wonderful.

Well. my Arthritis doesn't like it but I like the cold weather because you can always put more one but there comes a point where you can't take anything else off.....

I had to drive east 20 miles to my Bernie dealer and then back the other way about 25 miles from my house (to OK City) to return some things I had purchased for my daughters' college stay. At 10:30 the bank temp in the city was 101 but it probably was not in the shade. It was miserable on the strip mall.

When it gets like this I'm reminded how glad I am that I'm not in charge of Girl Scout Day Camp anymore....I had a year where it hit 112 at 3:00 and I had 200 kids we were trying to hydrate while the counselors were dropping like flies. I turned around just as my assistant hit the chair...almost had to call an ambulance for her...she had been doing well, but the extreme heat and we both had to walk about a block...it was just the last straw for her.

You guys take care through this heat spell now, ya hear?

I had a little light headed sick spell earlier this evening after I came home. I had only eaten a banana, some grapes and a few crackers today and went out and got in my car at 5:30 that was at least 116 inside where it had been sitting in the sun all day, even though I had all the windows cracked and the sun shade in the windshield. Felt better after I ate some pasta and drank a whole lot of Crystal Light Iced tea. That happened yesterday to DH when he came out of church and got in his truck that had been sitting in the sun with all the windows rolled up.

It is hot and humid in Mich too. In the mid 90's with 80-90 humity. Miserable weather, but so is below zero. So I just grin and bear it and drink alot of fluids. At the house I wear very lightweight clothing and of course the AC helps.

Here in Ottawa it reached 34C today but with the humidex it was like 40C (over 100F). I have AC at home and at work. If I'm lucky I get a bus with AC to travel to and from work. If not...I just have to grin and bare it!

We got a small rain shower this afternoon and then it felt like a sauna here. I stayed in the air conditioning most of the day and even got around to starting on another skirt. Just need to hem it now.
I still like summer more than winter. I can't stand to be cold. I can stay outside much longer in the heat than I can when it's below freezing.

In all of the heat yesterday, I was doing a tour of historical socieities west of our area (most were closed to the public that day). These older facilities do not have AC, and I was in the attic of one of them. I wore a sundress - an anomaly in itself because I NEVER wear dresses, and perspiration just rolled off my body.

My friend had to keep redirecting me away from the clothing and quilts - of course I almost screamed when I saw a silk pieced quilt top (I'd say around 1840-1860) just tossed in a back room. (Breathe in the good air, release the negative air.) That changed pronto.

So, to keep cool, I was thinking about other things that come after my family and sewing - and that is preserving our community heritage as well as drinking a bottle of gatorade.

Today I will be in the county office building for a few hours. You never know what you will get there. Some times the air conditioning is great, other times it's not even on. You find out when you get there.
But in the winter it is worse because the heat is so high.

Heat encourages the nausea. Good news is that they are cryogeneically freezing the labor manager here at work so it was nice and cool in the office. Bad news is the second you step outside it about knocks you down. It seemed like the AC in my car couldnt keep up with the heat the sun was putting off, and one side of me was hot the other was cold.

My D had dance last night and they dont have AC in the studio so as soon as she came out it looked like she had taken a shower! I gave her a nice cold water and when I stood up it was almost gone. I told her instructor I had an extra AC window unit that they could have and she was like "No, its good to sweat a little". I told the owner and she said that would be awesome PLease bring it!!

I dressed my youngest in a lovely little dress for her first day of kindergarten. It was very hot. The teacher lined the kids up to go in the buidling and she promptly fainted from the heat.

If that dance instructor doesn't keep those kids hydrated she'll have some real problems...ask a old Girl Scout Leader and mother of three sports kids. When my kids would practice basketball this time of year in a non A/C gym I pushed the water on the kids and parents like crazy!!!! The A/C is a good idea. It might not have a huge effect on the temp of the room but the kids need all the help they can get!

Shades are pulled, ceiling fans going, a/c running, ice tea with lemon. Luckily I don't have to go outside if I don't want to. If the mosquitos weren't so thick in the evening I'd go out then, it is just too hot during the day. A heat advisory has been in effect since 8am here.

Our heat is not as intense as everyone else but sometimes the humidity makes it feel warmer than it really is. We keep blinds down and run to the basement. Our little dog doesn't like the heat either. He is practically lifeless when it warms up. We make sure he has lots to drink.

I just stay in the house and let the ac do it's thing. In our new house my sewing room is in the lower level of the house and it's the coolest place. I can't wait to finish up this move and get to Ohio. Less than a week to go.

Our temp right now is 88F with 61% humidity, heat index is 95F, this is typical summer weather here.
I've lived in south Florida since 1978 and the best way to stay cool is to stay inside in the AC. The only time I really dread the heat is when I have to go out, the AC in the car is not working.

We are at 82 degrees with 52 percent humidity. It is much better than yesterday, I think. It will be hot through the week and cool into the 70s for the weekend.
Like I said, I try not to complain too much if I don't have to shovel it.

We're in the 98 - 100 with the heat index of over 105 degrees - lots of humidity so I stay indoors with the a/c on. When I do have to go out, I cool down the car before getting into it. I cannot take the heat without becoming ill. Am still working on baby clothes for our ASG national service project. Should have them finished by tomorrow.
Happy Stitching!

It's around 90 here in Connecticut, probably near 100 at midday. Keep cool??!! I teach 40 kids ages 8-15 sewing for 5 hours a day! That's enough to raise your blood pressure!

Seriously, it rained for the ENTIRE spring here, so I am thouroughly enjoying riding in my convertible SAAB! Yep, it's hot, but I'm loving every minute of it!!

I don't know how I registered without listing my location, but I live in Tucson, AZ, where high desert heat comes every summer. Best thing I can say for it is we are prepared with central air conditioning about everywhere. Worst thing I can say is it is always HOT. I know it is really hot all over the country now, especially where humidity gets very high. Most friends I know don't come to see us in the summer, so it is a wonderful time to do some major sewing without interruptions. Maybe like many of you do in the winter? Not sure.
So -- as this is the "sewing season" for me, I do my best sewing wearing shorts and stroking that foot pedal barefooted.

Our temp has finally gone down (if you can call 105-110 down) but the humidity is up...so hot and sticky. Running from air conditioned home to a/c'd car to a/c'd work and repeat in reverse to go home! Blinds are closed, a/c is on and temp has been lowered (altho I hate doing that), all the ceiling and floor fans are running full blast!

Doesn't seem like there is anyplace in the states that is cool. I was hoping CO would be cooler when I went next week but it's not looking like it will be, but, I'll be near a lake and in the woods so maybe that will help! LOL

Try to stay cool and remember to drink alot of water everyone.

About 36 years ago I went to a national convention in Ft. Collins, Colorado. It was about this time of year. We were told to dress warmly that it would be cool the whole time. I made wool suits slacks, jackets, etc to wear....that was all I made...everything matched and switched out. When we got there? It was hotter than home. Nothing was air conditioned (at that time). We were at the university and miserable. The university was very nice though.

Patsy and Pam - I am here in Norman sweating it out with you!! Made a miserable trip to Dallas yesterday. My youngest DD and her friends have a "unique" way to beat the heat - so THEY say. they turn the hot tub up as high as they can stand it and when they get out it feels "cool" outside to them. What a bunch of nuts! She also practices competitive cheer and tumbling 5 hours a week in an unair-conditioned metal building. Ahhh - to be young again. I grew up in the Mississippi delta and stayed outside all summer. Now I feel like I am melting. My brother lives in Parker Dam, AZ, which is on the tail end of death valley and he refuses to come see us in the summer because it is too hot here. Do either of you have water restrictions yet? I am sure they are on the horizon for us.

I'm on well...and we don't water the Bermuda grass anyway...the way I was raised when summer comes and you don't have to cut it is a Blessing (ha ha). I don't know exactly who is served by that huge water main from yesterday but it looks like OKC is about to be restricted.

There are enough OKIES on this board we need to get together for tall glass of cool ice tea at Johnnies sometime!!!

Pam and my2girlies I haven't melted yet, just close to it. Midwest City hasn't restricted yet. Come to think of it, I can't remember MWC restricting the 12 summers I've been here, but there is always a first. DH was watering our grass last night and is struggling to keep our new Crepe Myrtle ($70.00) alive (it's planted on the northwest corner of our house/patio. My geraniums on the patio (west side) are just about to give it up although we've been watering and trying to coax them into surviving. Even our pooch stays in the house in the evenings and she's usually outside until after dark once we both get home from work. You're right Pam we should set a date and put out an invitation for all the "Okies" on this board to join us at a central location for a "tall cool lemonade".

Got myself a big fan for the house as its just soooooo hot here in england at the moment.

The thing thats keeping me sane is our pool, were lucky enough to be able to take a dip when the heat becomes too much, and this week turned the heater off altogether!!!!

We have been in every night this week after work, literally get home and are straight in!

My ancestors come from some of the coldest places on this planet and I dont think im genetically made for the heat i LOVE the winter, its easy to get warmer but not to get colder.

Ladies and Gents my car said it was 109 degrees this evening at 5:00 p.m. when I got in it to come home. About 10 minutes later it had cooled all the way down to 106 degrees and stayed there the rest of the way home. I just logged on about 10 - 15 minutes ago and my weather forecaster said it was still 96 degrees. DH said we got our electric bill today and it is almost $300 and that doesn't include the last week and a half of 100 degree temps. It's a good thing we're on the budget plan with OG&E.
Let's see, natural gas has doubled + here the past year, electric rates have almost doubled and now the electric company is whining to the Corporation Commission for another rate hike and gasoline is at $2.99 a gallon here so I may or may not get to retire in 13 months. Dang!!! :nc:

I would LOVE to - so count me in. How about we meet - hmmm - in Cancun!! Ha Ha wouldn't it be nice. Things are a little hectic now but in a couple of weeks would be great. Let's definately plan something one evening or week-end. As a beginner it would be great just to know that someone is out there to catch it when I am tempted to toss my machine!

I got a new fan yesterday.. The Sr Centers here were offering them to any Srs over 60, just for showing proof of age.. So, since mine is old and on its last legs, I sent after a new one, so I would not be totally without.. I run my fan regardless of whether my A/C in on or not.. Keeps the air moving in the 2nd level of that part of my house.. I always called it a split level, but now they say tri-level.. My BR and SR are on the upper level, so I need to keep the air circulating..

It is hot here today in the north. I am too cranky to convert the 35 to feriheit (or obviously even spell it). I am with John Boy, I am conditioned to winter and will take it anyday over the heat.

"they turn the hot tub up as high as they can stand it and when they get out it feels "cool" outside to them." Seems a bit backwards. Several years ago during a hot spell near Seattle my cousin and I got to the cottage before her husband. At the heat makes me sore I was ready for the hot tub. She didn't know how to turn on the heat so we jumped into the cool water. It was HEAVENLY. And as we headed into evening we never did heat up again and slept soundly which I hadn't for some time.

I have ceiling and other fans in every room of my house - I don't know of anyone who has ac here. I am sure my electrical bill will be higher these summer months than when we have little daylight in the winter!! I am leaving next week for Toronto as my baby is both having a baby and moving to Waterloo. She tells me the ac in the Toronto house doesn't work well but the new one in Waterloo does. Thankfully they moved up moving date before the baby is due. For some reason, while I don't like the heat, I am 'coping' physically better than I used to - advantage to aging perhaps?

It's still VERY hot here in GA but more so humid. We are having showers now (well, the past few days) in the afternoon but I'm not sure if that is helping too much..it just makes it a bit hotter.
We've just been trying to plan any outside activities late in the afternoon and not having the baby out in the heat of the day. The pool has also been VERY inviting!
Hope you all are having a great Saturday!

We had a cool front yesterday! The temp today will be down from 110 yesterday to perhaps 92! It is nice to have a "breather" although whoever thought that 92 would be cool? Even one of our local pools closed because of the danger of heat stroke!

I'm keeping cool today by being at work in an airconditioned lab, although it's still 26C inside. It got up to 37 yesterday and for us that is HOT and humid. It was way hotter when we were down in Calif two weeks ago and this feels much hotter here, the humidity makes it feel like you are walking outside into a sauna! I'll probably go shop after work for a bit, then head home and go into the basement. Our little window air conditioner bit the dust last night, and DH took off for Seattle today for the drag races (now that's insane in this heat). Don't mind the heat that much as long as I can get out of it once in a while. I just feel bad for my plants that are getting scorched.

Please be careful when drinking that nice cold water, particularly if you've been working in the heat. DO NOT gulp down a lot of cold, cold water quickly. Don't let your pets do it either if you can help it. If any of you are horsey people you will know of the danger of letting your horse drink too much too fast after work but the same applies to us people. It is too big a shock to your system.

One of our super fit skating club members took a heart attack last summer and his doctor said it was due to his gulping down two glasses of nice cold water after cutting the lawn outside in the heat.

I read everyone's posts, and I'm actually trying to "Keep My Cool". Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like the electric bill flew over the coo-coo's nest. I just received by bill for July, and it was only at the tune of $600.00. I about had a coronary on the spot. So I wound up buying a whole new A/C unit plus some back to basics with window insulation, etc. I thought I had it bad until I talked to a young lady at the A/C company. She said her bill was over a $1,000.00.

Is anyone else reaping the woes of outrageous light bills.....I told the guy at the energy company, that if I push the thermostat any higher, I might as well be living in my backyard under a tarp! LOL

Oh yeah, a $600 electric bill would cause me to lose my cool plus have a coronary, probably. Like I said, our house is on the budget plan for OG&E so everything tends to even out. In the winter time we pay Oklahoma Natural Gas instead of Oklahoma Gas & Electric. We may end up puting a new furnace in our house this year before winter happens again here in Oklahoma.
