It's that time again. My vegetable garden is starting to produce, so my very busy summer time is about to begin. Hubby and I started a batch of 12 day pickles last night. It is a recipe of his late mother's, and the only pickles he will eat. They are quite good though. I'll have green beans and peas soon. Tomatoes are starting to ripen, and when they do it seems like they all get ripe at once, so there will be alot of canning going on in our house. The okra will be blooming soon, can't wait. Do any of you have a garden too? It is work, but well worth it in the winter with all of the wonderful veggies we put up in jars and the freezer. Joanie |

My freezer if full of corn and green beans, but that's about it so far. Tomatoes and okra are starting to come in and hubby picked one watermelon so far. He planted some pickling cucumbers, but we haven't got any yet. I planned to make pickles, but don't know if we'll get enough. We need RAIN. |

This year has been horrible for our garden. My husband and I plant one at my MIL house (she has almost an acre of land) every year. We share all the veggies with family since we could never eat it all ourselves. But this year, wow, between the heat and the constant rain it just hasnt produced like it normally does. We have gotten one huge cucumber that I think grew over night, and a few cherry tomatoes (tommy toes) that we threw on a salad this weekend. Zuchini never produced, and the regular tomatoes popped up and fell off before they turned red or got big?? We have seven dusted and fertilized and strung them up and loved and sang to them but I think thats about all we will get this year. Stephi

Everyone here is saying the same thing. Their garden isn't producing as much due to so much rain. I am really hoping for tomatoes, potatoes and peppers.

Our garden is small enough and close enough to the house that we can water it. We ran soaker hoses between the rows and plants and give them a good drink every couple of days. It isn't a very large garden, but is more than enough for us(hubby and me) and still give some to family and friends. That's part of the joy. JoanieB |
