She is 9 yrs old, has her own little blue Kenmore sewing machine, and has been sewing now for about 6 months.
She has made 3 total nine patch blocks, and decided to move onto something a bit more challenging.

Here is her first friendship star block. :bg:

You have got to try it the cheater way!
This is how we did it:
place two 6" (or whater size you desire) squares of material together right sides together. Use a ruler and erasable marker and make a diagonal line from the bottom left to upper right corner. Now sew 1/4" on both the right and left side of the line. Then use a ruler and rotary cutter to cut apart on the line you drew. Like magic you have 2 right square triangles. You only need do this twice to make one of these blocks. All the other pieces are simple squares. Easy peasy :bg:

Yep that's the best way to make HST (half square triangles)! There are lots of sites that give explanations (quilterscache is one). Somebody posted a link to a good site in a recent post.

I found the post...here's the site:

I printed those directions out when it was posted earlier-just haven't gotten around to trying it but it is definitely on my to do list-I love the looks of many of the patterns but shy away because of the triangles so as soon as I catch up on the stuff I have to get done this summer, I'm doing those!

Thanks, everyone!
She was giddy over all the sweet compliments.
They mean so much to her as a beginner. She always says, Mom, you're my mom, you have to say it looks great! LOL!
She is so excited and counting down the days until this Saturday, because my quilting guild found out I have been teaching her to quilt, and insisted that I bring her! :bg:
You'd think she was going to Disneyland as jubulant as she has been.
It does warm my heart.

Great job! It looks yummy.
I'm jealous that your daughter is sewing with you. My daughter used to, but has lost interest the past couple of years. She's 14.
I hope your daughter has a nice time at your guild meeting. Watch out, she'll have her own stash soon. If she doesn't already. :dave:
