For my 5 yr old grandson's birthday we bought him a remote control car. He arrives from out of town on Wed afternoon. As I sat here on the forum, suddenly this remote control car comes flying into the room and bangs into the chair. Guess who's playing!! Grandpa! Then off he goes to see how it goes in the grass and on the street. I think he may wear down the battery before the GS gets to play with it!! At least I know what to get my hubby for Christmas!!!

It just goes to show that they never grow up - but I'm one to talk as I enjoy toys like that too! Perhaps they should have one each so they can have races?

My husband and I often get toys to play with. Sometimes we tell ourselves they're for the ferrets, but we know the ferrets don't really WANT toys. They, like most kids prefer the boxes and bags...

My baby boy is only 3 weeks old and hubby has already bought a Lightning McQueen car (from the Cars movie) that he drives around here and makes a total racket!

Thing I've found is the toys get more expensive - time was when Tony was satisfied with a Klingon Bird of Prey Airfix Kit or a battery operated Dalek - but now? Gadget man likes his toys to have more bells, whistles, chips and usb ports- still he did like the sonic screwdriver I got him for an anniverasy present...

I never got anything that required batteries as a kid so I made do with what I had. Barbies, string and two dachshounds who loved to tear down our long hallway. My brother and I would tie barbies to the dogs backs and put treats at the end of the hallway, then you show the jockied dog the treats and carry them back to the starting line. Oh its the best game in the world, but it doesnt work with cats they are too slinky. It might work with ferrets though, My friend only has one!!

My dh has a computer that does just about anything you can imagine. He has an entire recording studio inside his computer. It also plays a piano, an organ, a guitar, etc. He has two expensive guitars and is looking at another one on e-bay. The garage is beginning to be overrun with woodworking saws, drills, screwdrivers, air compressors, nail guns, air hammers, etc. that he swears he needs to do work around the house and wood working projects. So far, the new woodwork is still standing out in the garage, the platform bed has yet to be built, etc., etc., you all get my drift. The toys only get more expensive and high tech as they get older.

Here in the south the saying goes "the only difference in a man and a boy is the price of the toy". I'm sure it's true everywhere though.

Patsy,
Speaking from bad experience... make sure your hubby asks in detail as to how well the guitar will be packaged. My hubby is an electric guitar player (he seems to really like things that make a lot of noise) and bought a beautiful electric guitar (Hamer? I think) on e-bay a year or so ago. The guy said it would be a custom made box but neglected to put any packing materials in it (duh). Sadly, it arrived in two pieces. The insurance paid to repair all the damage but a repaired guitar was not quite what he had in mind. Just had to throw in my 2 cents. I do love e-bay though.

Or the time thirty years ago when DH and buddy put together the electric train ensemble and super duper table...Do you think that the kids ever got to play with it??? Not...

I keep telling him that the one who dies with the most toys..still dies!!! He doesn't see my humor...what a grump...

My SIL would agree with you on the size and price of the "Boy Toys". My brother went from small HO scale train sets to the real thing!!!!! The only good thing about it is that it can't come to their house so it stays at the Museum about 2 miles from their house.

jenny-o by dh did buy a guitar on e-bay -- a Blue Ridge acoustical -- but it came with the hard shell case and the seller shipped it Fed Ex at my dh's request. We refuse to ship anything by UPS anymore due to the fact that anything we've shipped over the past year and anything we've received during the past year have either been damaged beyond repair and use or smashed to a pulp (if it's food stuff). Anything that we buy on the "net" that cannot be mailed first class we request and pay for it to be shipped Federal Express freight.
