Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum, and I just LOVE it...I've learned soooo much already just from reading, plus, I feel like I know you all already! I'm 43, and just got my first sewing machine last Christmas from my wonderful mother! It's just a simple little Singer 1120, but I love it! She used to sew all my clothes when I was growing up, but I never truly appreciated them! Now, I am finding that sewing is quickly becoming a passion of mine as well! Have a great day, and I look forward to chatting with you all! |

Welcome to the group. Remember when sewing clothing, DO NOT BUY PATTERNS BY YOUR RTW SIZE. Buy patterns by YOUR CURRENT MEASUREMENTS. This will save you a lot of grief in the long run. A great beginner's book is "Sewing 101". Happy Stitching! Marty It takes one moment to change a life.

Another useful tip is knowing the ease that is built into the pattern, such as loose fitting, means really loose. I have found now that the more I sew for myself the more I really watch the patterns to see how they look and are designed. I get really tired of bying a pattern, starting to sew it up and having to readjust things over and over. I haven't learned enough about fitting the pattern before sewing it, but am learning. Sewing is a great hobby!

Welcome Mystic Mama. I love anybody or thing that is mystic! Also welcome to all the many newcomers that have arrived over the summer. We love to see you all, hear what you are learning and what you can teach us. This truly is the best forum on the web, so well organized and pretty. Mary is responsible for it all and we all appreciate her very much.
