I was finishing a top and I bought the invisible zipper without even thinking that I need an invisible zipper foot. Is there any way to install an invisible zipper with a regular zipper foot?

Yes. The zipper needs to be about 2 inches longer than the opening. You baste the opening closed at 3/4 inch. Then open the zipper and lightly press near the teeth, uncoiling the teeth as you press just to help them stand up a little. Put the dress and seam allowance to one side and place your zipper at the opening, about 2 inches from the bottom of the zipper (explain later).
Stand the coils against the basting line and sew up the seam allowance on the zipper tape. Match the zipper on the other side and repeat. Remove basting stitches. At this point I always check to make sure that I cannot see much zipper tape. Sometimes I get a little far away. If you are, just go back and sew a little closer. If your fabric is heavier it will cover better than with light weight fabrics. When you don't have much tape showing, go to the bottom of the zipper and bring the zipper pull up through the opening. You can baste the opening closed but no one ever sees that tiny amount at the bottom of the zipper so it is optional. Continue with your garment according to the seam guide. I really like this method of insertion!

I don't have an invisible zipper foot, and I do just fine. It's just not a slam-dunk to steer the needle into the groove and stay in it. But if you can get into that groove and sew in a straight line slowly, you'll be fine.

what kind of machine do you have.. You just might have an invisible zipper foot and not know it.. I have a Janome and their zipper foot is for both invisible and regular zippers..

But if you don't have one I would do like everyone else and press the coils gently to flatten them a little. Then sew as close to the coils as you can.. You should not see any of the zipper when it's close except for the tab..

Hope this helps
