Yes, ladies, this happened yesterday! Fortunately, she is ok. I told her to stop wiggling and stand up straight. About a minute later she passed out! Forward she went and her chin hit the wooden ironing board as she went down "whiplashing" her neck. It was frightening and there was nothing I could do to keep her from falling as I had been sitting on the floor behind her. She started to go into shock (her head shaking), she wasn't breathing. I had never been near anyone who passed out before, so it was quite scary. She has some marks and bruises, but her parents and the doc think she will be ok. It was warm, she hadn't eaten much that morning and she must have locked her knees. She had no history of this happening before. So, please watch for this if you tell someone to stand up straight while you're marking a hem! I'll surely be glad next Saturday night when the wedding is through and I can relax.

whoa scarey - you will be passing people glucose sweets now before you pin another hem..sounds like she went down like a log, people who generally faint collapse and start to wake up almost as soon as they hit the floor.

That is very scary. I've never heard of that happening to a woman (passing out from knees locking) I've only seen the men. I hope she's OK.

That's one of the biggies they tell you when you are singing with a choral group and standing for long periods of time singing "Do Not Lock Your Knees". You'll kill over every time as that apparently impedes the blood flow and oxygen throughout the body. I've seen brides faint because they do that, bridesmaids, etc. Low blood sugar and locking your knees will do it every time. I also hope the young lady is going to be okay.

Thats why they dont let the Military stand at attention for very long. Many people dont know that locking your knees is bad and will knock you over, LOL! Glad she is OK thats a story thats going to be passed along for years to come

It does happen a lot at weddings. The bride might want to warn the wedding party. There is nothing like a groom "going down" during the ceremony.

What a frightening experience that must have been. Glad that the young lady is okay and you're not being held accountable. Good luck on finishing everything for the wedding.
Happy Stitching!

Oh, Marty, I know. I think there were too many factors to consider it my responsibility, but I suppose an argument could be made. I feel terrible she got banged up and thankful she wasn't permanently injured.

My husband is Active Duty Air Force (25+ years) and a musician. Actually, Military members often must stand at attention for long periods of time. However, all are taught in basic training to rock and reposition their weight between legs and feet so they can stand for long periods of time without falling or wavering (no knee locks either). The techniques the band musicians use are especially well learned as they can march or stand in place for very long distances or times. In being the spouse of a USAF musician, I've never known of one to go down, so the techniques work! I'm very happy to hear the moh will be OK! Happy sewing, Cherf

My husband and children have all been through the Air Cadet program, and every year at the Annual Parade, they all have to stand at attention for significant periods of time, and stand 'at ease' during a speech by a visiting dignitary.

Because they're all adolescents, there is always one (at least) who has to 'fall out' because he/she is about to faint. They are taught ahead of time how to go down on one knee, and they help each other off the parade square. I always feel so sorry for the kid who has to 'fall out'. They are so self-conscious at that age, and this attracts EVERYBODY'S attention!

But it's always better to 'fall out' than to fall down!

That's very scary!! I hope she is still ok.

Many years ago that was me. My grandmother was marking the hem of a coat. I was standing in the picture window ( a nice sunny winter day) and the next thing I knew, I was laying on the sofa! I don't remember about the locking knees, but the same words were probably spoken, "stop wiggling" or "stand still".
