Nope...not even close. I spent the week changing the shelves, re-arranging and painting my sewing room. It feels like a whole new place. Still having trouble finding things & I have a visitor, my niece, who just arrived today. Then on Friday & Saturday we will be going on a quilt shop hop. So won't be getting any sewing done this week either. Maybe I could package it up and send it over and you could finish if for me!!! LOL.

Jan, Great job on your quilt! I haven't been on this site much this summer. I haven't even sewed! I've been to busy being an Alpaca Rancher and working on the property we purchased. The house is still not complete, so I live in chaos. I'm hoping to get back to sewing later this fall or early winter. I still plan on finishing this project (and others). Miss all of you! I'll get mine done this winter. I still haven't moved into the new home. But hopefully soon. I've just been knitting and spinning (when I have time). Actually my husband & I have been building fences for the pastures and 3 sided shelters for the animals. I have set up an album with all of the Alpacas and pictures of the house and property as we have progressed through the summer. I'll be getting back to sewing soon! I miss it. Hey Jan...now don't fall off your chair....but I started sewing on the block borders and cutting the sashing strips for my ADVENT QUILT!!!!! It took me a while to figure out the sizes to use and whether I had enought material. I even had to add an extra border to make it come out right. I had figured out everything before for a double bed...but in the meantime I found out she has a queen size! So now when it is finished it should be 90" x 107" (which is close enough for me). And to top everything off...I've decided to use the Quilt-as-You-Go method to make it. We'll see how it turns out.... I'll keep you posted. TTFN from

Yep Jan...I know (she says with a stressful sigh). Got all my borders cut. Got all the sashings for the front cut. Got all the blocks & borders cut for the back. Got all the 12" batting cut for the blocks (still need to cut the big block for the tree). Have to wash fabric and cut the sashings for the back. And have 1.5 blocks quilted!!! Won't be doing any more work on this until next Tuesday since I am going away for the weekend and only coming back on Monday. So it's looking more & more like this will be a birthday gift instead of a Xmas one...but never say die until the fat lady sings!!!! or Xmas arrives!!!! : TTFN from

Jan, I've been working on my advent quilt. Got 3 blocks quilted yesterday and one so far today. That makes 5 done. 3 - 12" and the big tree still to go. Then I get to try to put it all together. We'll see if my theory how to do a quilt-as-you-go works! BTW, I lost a day...my sister informed me that my niece's birthday is Jan. 4th not the 5th! So I'm probably not gonna make that deadline. Oh well, as long as it gets done in 2007... TTFN from

Hi Judy, It was nice of Jan not to nag you before the holidays! I can't wait to see the quilt as you go method turns out. I might try that. An update on my sewing/craft room. I have moved my sewing machines and most of my equipment over, but have not gotten everything unpacked yet. My problem is in our old house,my material is currently hanging in clear bags in a closet. No closet here, it is a big loft with no storage. So if anyone has suggestions. I really don't want to put it into totes. Once I finish getting this room set up, I will be sewing again! Happy New Year! Happy sewing/quilting/crafting

Liz, I was going to suggest the same as Jan. I have a long metal closet rod from wall to wall in my laundry room in the basement. I use it to hang my shirts on hangers after washing (instead of using dryer). Or maybe you can buy or make a small wardrobe cupboard if you want it enclosed. We can usually get them at Home Depot or IKEA. PS...yes it was nice of Jan not to nag before the holidays...but now the holidays are over and I thought I'd better give an update before she starts. Hi Carolyn, No, none of my daughters are newscasters. But, that is unusual to have another Fagel in Northern Michigan. It is not a family name around here as my husband's family were originally from New York. Maybe it is a relation? I'll have to watch for her. Hope you had wonderful holidays! Yes, I was thinking about hanging the material that way, but my ceiling is a finished pine ceiling, no rafters. I also thought about buying those wire closet shelves, that you can hang things from in your closet. The problem with that is the loft only has half walls, as the ceiling comes down at an angle. I can't hang it there and if I hang it on the wall, most of the material will drag on the floor. The only thing I thought of, is some sort of shelving and fold it up to display it. I like to be able to look at the material without having to dig though a box or tote. I was thinking of trying to store it like they have it on the shelves in the store. Or I might get one of those portable hanging racks that I can push around to any location in the room. Maybe that would be the way to go. Keep up the suggestions. Liz Liz - is there any way you can fix up a hanging pole? Then you could have it hanging in bags as before - 2 big hooks in the rafters and the pole suspended underneath. Jan...just thought I'd give an update on my Advent Quilt. Well things are not going so good. I had taken a break to finish the Red-White-&-U swap but then I started back at it. All my blocks are quilted and I've been sewing the blocks together (sashings) since I decided to try the quilt-as-you-go method. I now have to take another break to work on a quilt for my manager who is retiring. I've volunteered to make the quilt for the end of March...so I have to do a quilt in a month. Yesterday I bought the fabric & today I was washing it. So I thought that I would finish putting the centre part of my quilt together to have that done before I stop to work on the retirement quilt. Duh...while doing this I have just run out of the material I was using for the backing. The material had shrunk more than I planned when I did my calculations. I am short approximately one 3.5" strip!!!! Now I have to try to find some more if I can...or I'll have to figure out something else to do. So here is a picture of my centre...note the vertical sashings are sewn (except for the right of the tree block). I have only placed the horizontal sashings since I stopped sewing when I realized that I was missing the backing fabric. The second pic in the album is what the back looks like to this point... Borders will have to be added after too. Advent Quilt (http://heyjudee.photosite.com/Album1/) Here are pics of the individual blocks (http://heyjudee.photosite.com/Album2/) TTFN from

Looks good so far Judy, boy have you got a workload! Take heart that the best Amish quilts always have a little 'flaw' in them to stop the maker becoming too proud. It is to kep you from becoming 'hochmude' (sp) I am so used to the fact that mine is monochrome it came as a shock to see colour in someone elses! I love the way you have done your tree with the leaves onthe ground. It will all come together eventually and now you can save it up for the UFO challenge! love and kisses, Jan

Thanks for the encouragement...I'm beginning to stress out over the retirement quilt...haven't even started cutting the pieces yet. Nice you noticed the leaves on the ground...that's leaves for my mother & father and my sister's in-laws. - my niece's grandparents. My sister & her husband are the two in the centre of the trunk and her 4 children are the darker leaves on the outside edges and all their children in the lighter leaves around each darker leaf. I'm really anxious to get this finished and see her reaction. But that will have to wait for a while.... TTFN from

Judy, what a pretty quilt! As I have always said, you do such beautiful work. My favorite block is Canada Day with the fireworks! Now, about being short one 3.5 strip...... is there anyway you can improvise and add something similiar...same color scheme...... and make it more of a scrap quilt look? What block are you using? Wow, nice of you to offer to make the quilt for your boss. Patty

Judy, I love how your advent quilt looks! I was also thinking of framing each block and using sashing, so it is great to see such a beautiful example of how it could look...if I ever make the final block, and put the thing together. I am still a newbie to quilting, so I really don't know how this might work...but would it be possible to somehow use another fabric in place of the absent strip, and turn it into a label/signature strip? I think it would make an interesting detail on the back of the quilt. Take care,
