GRRRR!!!! Help Please.

I just got the Brother 6000i and it was fine the first 2 days, but now I can't get the top tension right. Just out of now where the loops started appearing on the top, all sitches have run toghether and you can't distinguish one from the other. The bottom thread looks perfect, you can see the individual stitches, no loops, (just like the top should look)

I have read the manual again and I have decreased the top tension, the only tension I can adjust. I have adjusted the stitch length and nothing has helped. I have the tension as low as I can go (2) withouth messing up the bottom. If I go down to (1) it gets messy on the backside.

Any suggestions?

Should I go back to the store and exchange it for the Singer Ingenuity that was mentioned in a previous thread?

Thank you for your help,
Melinda

Does changing the tension change the stitch at all?
If not maybe you are not getting the thread between the tension disks?
I don't know much about it but that has happened to me so it is my first thought.

Try putting your top tension back to normal then check your bobbin to see if it is in properly with the thread winding from it the right direction and going through all slots correctly and see if that helps.

I have taken the bobbin out several times, re-threaded it, turned it off unplugged it incase it needed to reset like some of the other comuterized equipment, I got the manual out and went step by step with the instructions.

Sometimes if you shut it off, unplug it and go back in few it will be fine.

This morning still having problems and it looked like it was still kinda wanting to do a bit of the zig zag i was doing last night even though I had it set on another stitch. The strait stitch wasn't a crisp clean stitch with distinction between each stitch. I can see the thread in step 2/3 in the spring in the tension column. It goes through the take up lever and down to the needle.

I am at my wits end.

Right now it's all packed up and in the box ready to be returned. I may try the Singer Ingenuity. There were two other people on here that liked it.

Any thoughts before I go through with it?

I know several recommend a dealer, but unfortunately I don't have that kind of money. I'm the only one with a full time job. The $196 Brother was a stretch. The local dealer sells Janome and they want $199 for a plain machine that only does straight stitch and zig zag and $599 for the one similar to the Brother 6000i with the pretty star/asterix stitch, vine, etc... I could not get something as much as my house payment.

Thanks everyone for you toughts.

Could it just be that particular machine?
Could you exchange for another just like it. Maybe that would work fine.

If your upper tension is set on 4 - 41/2, the symptom you descibed is most likely in the bobbin tension. It is too loose. With the machine threaded pull on your bobbin thread and see how much tension is on it. If there is little or no tension make sure you are inserting the bobbin correctly. Then check under the bobbincase tension spring for lint or thread. If this does'nt correct the problem I will explain how to adjust the bobbin tension but I doubt it will need it.
This is all assuming your needle is good. If you haven't changed it try that first.
Have fun or don't do it, Tom
