This doesn't exactly fit any forum, but it's for my boys, and they're kids..... Well, we're decorating their new room in a pirate theme, and I'm trying to figure out what I want to do for their beds and for their windows. Any suggestions? Ticia |

They did a pirate room on one of the decorating shows the other day (I think HGTV) They made a sail canopy for the bed but I didn't see the whole thing so I don't know what window treatments they did. The little boy loved Peter Pan & his favorite character was Captain Hook.

Cool thanks, I'll have to look at that more later (bedtime now). Yeah, one of our boys is named Peter, so....... My husband and I are joking about giving them pirate names. Ticia |

Pirates ahhh? When I think of pirates, I think of bandanas going around their head....maybe the bedding out of bandana squares. I'm seeing the room in blue/red/white and black...... I think water....lots of blue.....maybe the walls of the room half water, half sky.......going up to a beach scene? Maybe white curtains to replicate the sails of a ship.....billowing effect by ruffling the top and make them a roman shade variation so they can hoist them up or down. How about a pirate flag? Skull and cross bones? (My daughter would think was the coolest part - hope she isn't a desendant of Mary Reade and Anne Bonney Okay.....time for coffee and to stop daydreaming. Wait.....how can you work in a treasure chest? Hmmmmm or gold coins? Jewels?I have to give that some thought. Patty

For the walls that's what we're currently thinking: sand colored on the bottom and sky on the top. I like the sails idea for the windows, that or the pirate flag...... If I can find one I like, I was thinking of possibly the treasure chest as their toy chest...... I'm not sure. Ticia |

Here's a link referring to the HGTV show that Mom of Six referred to. http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/shows_dct/episode/0,1806,HGTV_3827_3051,00.html What about a map to a buried treasure (with X marks the spot) on the wall, or it could be drawn or decoupaged to the side or top of a bureau. Maybe a fishnet hanging in a corner. What about a ships wheel decorating something. When I was growing up, my brothers had bunk beds with a half ships wheel on the end of each bed. Oops, dating myself here! TTFN from

There was another show also but I can't find it! It was on while I was sewing so I listen more than watch. They were doing 2 boys bedrooms & 1 was a Pirate room. I checked TLC. Maybe it was on Create. I will check there & get back to you.

I'll have to keep some of these ideas in mind for long term decorating. Right now, they're going into toddler beds, but we plan on eventually getting bunk beds or something for them. I like the fish net from the wall. I think I'd do the treasure map as a floor rug, maybe painted canvas, or raw edge applique....... Oohhhh this could be so much fun! Ticia |

How about a canvas roman shade, world map bedding with burgandy bed skirt? A treasure map for a rug is a great idea... |

So, I talked it over with my husband and we're going to use the treasure map idea on their beds. Each boy will have half of the treasure map and to get the whole thing you have to put the two quilts together! That, and he loves the canvas idea for the window curtians. I'm thinking of doing stitching so it looks like the "sails" have been patched and repaired. We're also going to start a hunt for a treasure chest for their toys. Keep the ideas coming, this is going to be such a neat room! I can't wait to take pictures and show everyone. Ticia |

You could do a mural on the wall or canvas to remove at a later date... I found a sample of a treasure chest mural but you could do this yourself using wall paper.. You could even do a port hole.. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Pirates-TREASURE-Chest-ocean-wall-mural_W0QQitemZ130012664968QQihZ003QQcategoryZ525Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting I put a wallpaper mural on our daughter's room and everyone asks about it. You have to come up close to see that it wasn't painted on. |

ebay has a flat anchor from time to time. Just too cute! screws flat to the wall. They also have one with two hooks for hanging coats or that pirate hat! Pirate flags and they have a ships wheel and port holes.... wait this isn't sewing! but sure helps to have a couple of props! All Swashbucklers need a pirate ship! even if their beds are the ship and the room is the ocean! Paint the ceiling the sky with clouds, the walls with the ocean and a deserted desert isle, perhaps a parrot in the corner somewhere, with palm trees. Both my boys were and still are Pirates.. somethings they never grew out of. Now my Grandson is a pirate! yo ho ho and a bottle of chocolate milk! |
