Hi, I bought a NEWLOOK pattern #6578 to sew a few little dresses for my God daughter. They are close to a A-Line dress. The pattern just has it where you have a small section of interfacing around the neck area. I was wondering if I could line the whole dress??? Do I just cut 2 piece when I cut out the dress.......one in fabric and one in a plain color fabric that matches??? Is it possible to line it??? I hope this is clear enough to understand.... Thanks for any help. Debra |

You're on the right track. And with a simple jumper design such as this one, you should have no trouble with it. You could either do a full facing, which would line the back, chest, and armscyes, or you could do a full lining. I like to make the lining about an inch shorter than the fashion side. Do I see correctly that it buttons at the shoulders? If that's the case then you'd simply assemble the dress and the lining in the same way, and then sew them together along the top, around the armscyes and the necklines, remembering to use a little interfacing where the buttons and buttonholes will go (some of those patterns don't mention that part, but it doesn't go so nicely if you don't do it! Ask me how I know.) You could choose a very light lining if it's for summer--batiste would feel so soft, or if it's for winter use something heavier. I did one like this and used 2 different fashion fabrics, making it fully reversible.
