Before I start my quilted handbag, my first, does anyone have any suggestions that might be helpful. I have the heavy weight iron-on fusible interfacing, but for the bottom of the bag, I thought maybe I could use a piece of the plastic mesh used for cross stitching. What do you think?

The pattern companies are even starting to recommend plastic canvas now, I've noticed.
It is the best thing, in my opinion.
