Ok, I have my pleated fabric, design and thread. But how many strands of thread do you use when smocking? Thanks, Carol cshortsew

According to the A-Z of smocking you will use; for traditional smocking designs 3-4 strands, 2 strands are wonderful for a delicate look on fine fabric. When picture smocking 4-5 strands will give you beautiful plump cable stitches. This came right out of the book, someone may have more information first hand. |

Thanks Kitty3. I guess I should have checked "the book" I need to get it out for the stitches anyway.

For a nice full look to your thread, strip the thread first. That means to seperate the strands and put them back together. I then run the thread through a fabric softener sheet to keep it from tangeling. Some like to iron their thread and some use a curling iron to run the thread through first. For me I like the fabric softener. Nonie |
