Hello - I am in needs of several yards of fabric. I've decided I'm going to take apart my husband's favorite pair of pants (they're my favorites too - he looks great in them) and make a pattern from them. The original pair are dilapatated beyond repair! Anyway, I live in a locale that has no access to anything but snooty vintage fabrics or expensive quilting-weight cottons. I am interested in shopping online and am looking for recommendations. My question is: where can I get some great khaki, soft denim or lightweight duck - hopefully in nice colors and soft to wear? I am hoping for 100% cotton. As far as shipping, I live in Washington state. I know there are great Canadian companies out there but the post issue has been annoying in the past. Any help is much appreciated! see the mundane life of a housewife.

Try www.fabrics.com. Their shipping is free with the first order and often they have specials of the day at 15 - 20% discount off their low prices. I have ordered from them before and they have some great fabric. Patty

Hello! Both fabric.com and denverfabrics.com have some great stuff. Thank you for the recommendations! OK, ironically our local "has-everything" merchantile has just upped their fabric choices - yay! I found a 100% cotton medium-weight broadcloth (a mud-grey color I liked for my husband) that should do nicely. Only problem is - it has a slight sheen to it. Will this come out with the wash? If not, is there any way to treat it to "distress" it a little? I am prewashing it now. (X-posting sheen question to Gen Sewing) Once again - thank you ladies! see the mundane life of a housewife.

I washed the fabric and it removed the sheen. My husband's "new" pants are sitting cut up and waiting to be sewn! If only I could get rid of our kids for a few hours... ;-]
