OK, I sometimes grouse about not having a fabric store in town. Ironically our local "has-everything" merchantile has just upped their fabric choices and although the selection is still meager, it's better than it was!

Anyway I found a 100% cotton medium-weight broadcloth (a mud-grey color I liked for my husband's casual pants) that should do nicely. Only problem is - it has a slight sheen to it. Will this come out with the wash? If not, is there any way to treat it to "distress" it a little?

I am prewashing it now.

Not all polished cottons loose that shine. I agree, just use the other side and no one will know.

Hello! I thought about using the reverse side but it looked kind of shiny too. Luckily the fabric lost all the shine once I washed and dried it. It's great! I'm just wondering though how I would be able to know when I bought the fabric, if it would lose the shine or not...

Thank you, ladies!

You could buy a small cut -- maybe 1/4 yard and wash it. If it is what you want go back for more.

Yup, I did that once, and when I got back there, it was all gone. I figure, go ahead and buy it, if it doesn't work for his pants, it'd make nice ones for me! Bonus!
