I am sewing a purse and it keep saying gusset I think it's the cardboard peice used to stablize it but not sure help anyone? |

On a purse, the gusset would probably be a piece on each end, that has an inverted crease in it. This allows for expansion of the contents.

They just called the straight side of one I just made a gusset. I wouldn't have called it that but this pattern did. Dorothy |

I _think_ a gusset is a feature that provides roomy-ness (sp!). In a purse, it could be that strip that makes up the sides and/or bottom of the purse, if the front and back are flat. That's what makes it a purse and not just a pouch or an odd-shaped pillow. In a pocket--think cargo pants--a gusset would be a box pleat as well as a strip that goes around the pocket, causing the pocket to extend from the leg by up to an inch or so.

And here (http://www.gussetjeans.com/whatguss.htm) is a gusset that makes a pair of pants roomier.
