here the link (http://simplicity.com/index.cfm?cat=6&type=0&sec=84&startrow=1)

Im using 6369 letter A, the strapless dress.
I cut out my pieces and now am going to change my needle :)

Okay my first question for the project :) I'm now at the stage to add facing to the two back pieces...Do I sew ontop of the already stitched pieces, or under it...or even along the edges on the piece, hmm I hope that makes sense...pretty much how do I add facing :)

Usually facing is sewn right sides together along the edge to be faced then turned.
If you copy the directions you don't understand we can better answer the question.
That dress looks like it will be a good first garment project. Just be sure you try it on every step of the way to make sure it fits.

Here is a tutorial with a facing (http://www.cahe.nmsu.edu/pubs/_c/C-233.html).

Unless otherwise instructed, remember to clip / pink / notch and understitch! It will make your facing all the better.

okay :) now im hemming the bottom of the dress...its suggesting to use hem tape as an option, but i felt that might look a little tacky..it aslo suggest to use the zigzag sticth. Im wondering though if this would be a good place to use the blind hemstitch...so if you guys could please give me your suggestions I would appreciate it :D thanks, Im almost done :D

Wow, you sure did that up quick! My suggestion for the hem would be if your fabric is dressier, and you want a more finished look to it, blindstitch the hem. I've never used hem tape except on a pair of drapes. I ususally serge the edge turn it up once so the serge edge is covered, then hem.

I made a shirt that was basically the dress, but shorter. I found it to be horribly low cut and ended up adding lacing to the top. Though, i didn't want to go through the effort and pull everything apart, so if you feel that that could be a problem for you, look for a fix early on.

If you arent happy with the overedge stitch you could always hem up again and do a blind stitch??? It will make the dress a little shorter but if you truely arent happy with it, I know that light material doesnt take to seam ripping or razoring very well. Just a thought, other wise its sounds nice and we will need a picture! :re:

Hey thanks guys, I'm actually visting my parents in San Francisco right now, but brought my dress :) My mom has a sewing machine, so I'm planning on working on it today. The hem wasn't as bad as I complained, now that I went back and looked at it, so now im just scared to put the bondice together with the bottom half...
Okay guys thanks again and I'll keep you updated, and a photo will be shown as the finish project ;)

The hem wasn't as bad as I complained, now that I went back and looked at it [snip]

That is a sewing truth. Often something that looks terrible the night you sew it (often after hours of sewing) will look much better in the morning!

Oftentimes you can use this to your advantage when sewing is going badly and you are getting cranky but "pushing through". Take a deep breath, have a glass of wine, go to bed - and check back in in the morning! It can help save frustration and certainly save you mistakes (ask me how I know this!).

Often something that looks terrible the night you sew it (often after hours of sewing) will look much better in the morning!

And sometimes something that looks just fine when you finally get it finished looks terrible when you look at it in the light of the next day.
My mother used to tell me to put it away for a while when I started getting tired or frustrated.

I've learned that the hard way, and wrecked some nice stuff by getting frustrated and impatient and hurrying my way through. I'm learning to pace myself, only sew many hours at a time, and when to stop and say that's it for the night. Hard lesson to learn sometimes.
