Just found this site yesterday and have been doing a lot of reading and chuckling... some of the problems were soooo familiar. Glad I'm not the only one doing stupid things from time to time. At least I learn something everytime...usually to not do that project again!

Question on EMP-6 by Babylock: Currently have 2 deco 600/650s and deco 330 with Artista software. Looking at upgrade to EMP6. My current software can be used (I already checked out hoop sizes and can transfer to card thru magic box). Here's my quandry: I'm watching an EMP6 on Ebay for 5950.00 with 3 xl hoops, 3 lg hoops, 2 med hoops, 1 small hoop, 1 cap frame and hoop and stand. With shipping and charges will probably run about 6300.00.
There is a new model out EMB -6 and can get thru dealer with 2 of all hoops, cap frame, and stand for 7300.00 plus tax. From what I've been seeing in comments dealer support is big and is it worth the 1600.00 difference for dealer support. (I think I really answered my own question, but looking for opinions).

Second thing dealer told me was Janome is coming out with a 4 needle machine that they can be linked together (similar to industrial multi-head units). Said it would be less expensive than EMB 6 but didn't have much more info yet. The lady I talked to was not the manager that is the EMB guru, I have to track her down yet this week. Anybody else heard anything?

Thanks for your help and advice.

I'd be really scared to buy something that expensive off Ebay. And dealer support for a sewing machine of that caliber would be a priority for me. I'd want to know how to use everything and what all it can do, all the little tips that a dealer will give. That's my 2 cents worth.

I agree whole heartedly. In addition, you will not have a warranty unless the seller is willing to provide one which would mean shipping a very heavy machine back and forth. I've heard of some dealers even giving home service on these. I have been watching this line of machines for quite some time with lust.

If I had the money to purchase though, before I did I would look at the new Toyota/Pantograms machine (12-15 heads and computer linking to other machines if added), the Renaissance machine made by Great Notions (12 heads with computer linking), and I'd probably hold out just a little longer to see the new Janome. It is just such a big investment that I'd want to get the most for my money. Also, since you are looking at a more commercial/crossover machine, you will probably want to keep this one for a while. It is kind of a different mind set.

While waiting for the new Janome to come out (in the scheme of things a couple of months isn't so long....) I'd upgrade my Artista software because those updates are coming in a matter of a couple of weeks or days.

Thanks for the input! The ebay one sold anyway (must be a sign it was not ment to be). For what the EMB is I know some of the smaller commercial machines are about the same with twice the needles. Have been researching Renaissance also. Saw this at a 2 day seminar and was pretty awesome. I am really curious about the new Janome. Can hopefully get with manager of store that is supposed to have the scoop this week. I'll keep you posted.

Also have idea for those with kids going away to college. My daugther is leaving for U of Cincinnati in September. I have spent a small fortune on towels and sheets, etc so I embroidered her knick name from softball on everything in color to blend in with item so it is identifiable as hers and hopefully less appealing to someone looking to swipe it! My niece lost a whole load of towels last year at her college (she left laundry room for a awhile before load finished in dryer-stupid). She is hiding her underwear- afraid I'll do that too- but I don't even want to think about how to hoop a thong!!

Happy Stitching and thanks for the input. I love this site!!

My dd ended up in a college UNFURNISHED apartment! Wow! 12X12.5 PRIVATE bedrooms (4) ceiling fans in every room! About 16X12 living space. 126 inches of drapery...had to take mine down for her (couldn't afford to buy those). Full kitchen, stove, sink, full size frig with ice maker, dishwasher, garbage disposal...and best of all....in another room...Full size multi cycle WASHER AND DRYER. This apartment has locking private rooms and two bedrooms to a bath with two sinks and over the sink lighting! Wow! two of us slept in a room with builtins that was about the size of her bedroom...and she has a closet with sliding mirrored doors! Really nice!!! Anyway, I did go ahead and do the school colors in the towels but I used a pattern run on the letters (Os on the O, Ss on the S and U on the u) in hopes that it wouldn't be a problem. I was impressed with the kitchen but I'd trade it any day for a laundry room because you always have meal tickets!

My oldest son ended up in a furnished apartment when he went to Pittsburgh with 3 other guys. Wasn't pretty. At least now he appreciates home!!

Found out a little more about the new Janome embroidery machine coming out. Is smaller than EMB 6, has 4 threads/needles, lighter but slower stitching. Lady I talked to said the company has not been too good with all info yet. Thinks it may do hats but she didn't know if it would be like EMB or with hoop-it-all frame. Hoops sizes are supposed to be like the 10000. Cost about $7500.00. I'm going to spend some time with her on Wed and play with the EMB 6. It's actually less expensive than the new one will be from the sounds of it. This will proably be a mistake because I'll have a hard time talking myself out of it!!

Will let you know how much fun it was!

Also saw on Bernina google group that there is or will be an upgrade for Artista to V5. Anyone heard anything. Bernina site says nothing.

They are releasing a lot of information now. The upgrade should run around 499 according to Faith Reynolds. That is something we've known most of the summer. There is a monogram portion that is supposed to be fantastic and rival just about anything out there. The film is supposed to be on screen and more (directly) responsive. They've moved the blackwork and all those fills into a little section of their own on the screen where you have more access. There is an automatic thread conversion portion that will allow you to take the colors from one brand to another automatically. The dongle is smaller. The manual will be on CD (Boo HOO). AUTO SPLITTING although I think Patric thought that could be better from something he said. There are some changes in the underlay but I don't exactly know what. THere are some digitizing changes. You can edit in Artistic mode now. There are fabric setting where you can set the type of fabric and it will automatically adjust the pull compensation. You can move the start and end points around easily. You can now modify the type of underlay and you can mix fills on an object or remove all understitching under a design to make it flatter. They've added a pattern stamp to the embroidery side (I like that in Cross Stitch). There is now a textured edge fill that will give a more "furry" look to the cross stitch. They've added some formats for reading/conversion. The information is supposed to be online now. There were complaints that not all portions were accessible yesterday. I think they were accessing it from the home page. What I have was downloaded from the San Antionio Bernina Dealer's website but looked like a Bernina press release. So far the reviews have been extremely favorable (except for Patrick's comment about the auto splitting..he said that the Brother program had that down better.)

The dealers are starting to train now. It is expected that after the training the software will be hitting their stores. My dealer trains on the 18th. The upgrade coupon that was given out for those that upgraded from Editor Lite said they had to purchase (I think) by Sept. 15. That probably does not necessarily mean that they would have it by then.

There is also some sort of continuous borders sortware that will be out later this fall. I understand that it does NOT include another hoop (everyone was hoping) and will be a seperate item.

Thanks for the info. I looked at the San Antonio site and couldn't find it but will try again after I've had some sleep. So much to learn...not enough hours to play!

I got this direct link to their PDF file from CJ Tinkle.

http://www.sewsanantonio.com/_pdf/description_fees_software.pdf

It also has the computer requirements, something that some say they've had problems getting.

Well I did it! Spent several hours with the Babylock dealer yesterday to play with the new 6 needle machine. It's was fantastic fun!! Some of the screen functions are very similar to the Brother/Bernina/ Babylock single needle machine so hopefully the learning curve won't be to bad. Going thru the dealer was definitely the way to go. Ordered the machine, stand and 2 of all hoops including hat hoop for 7300.00 plus tax. She will also do the initial check out and will deliver to my house and set up for me!!! What service. She gave me the manual already from the display model so I can start reading and be ready. Now I have to do some major cleaning in my sewing room, but it needs it anyway!! Probably look at selling my Deco 330 and 600, and keeping the Deco 650 for smaller projects. The nice thing is it uses all PES format which means everything (probably a few grand tied up there) will be usuable. And it works with the Artisa software so don't have to mess with new software. Will keep you posted after it arrives Sept 8th!!!! What a birthday present to myself!

Congratulations. I have the new BMP6. My DH bought it for me for Valentine's Day. I absolutely love it. Very easy to use and 6 needles is soo nice. I also got the Fast Frames with mine and LOVE them. Enjoy.
