Arghhhhh Moving is a PITA! We've been in the house not quite a week, still up to my ears in boxes. But I did get my daughter's room done today, will tackle the oldest boy's tomorrow. My room, the dining/sewing room (the most important room in the house) and office are still all boxed up.
And I really do not even want to look at the basement 'cause all the stuff we did not know where to place is down there! I'm also completely ignoring the garage, my husband can deal with that.
Oh well time to think about starting supper (at least the kitchen has been unpacked for a few days :whacky: )

I don't even want to think about it. But I will be doing it in less than a month. Yuck.

Notice how she has the computer up and running though!
Come on - whatever is still in boxes in 3 weeks time you just shove straight in the loft and then next time you move you chuck 'em out as they were not that vital anyway!
You can do it girls!

I'm not taking anything that doesn't have to come out of the box right away. Any little knick knacks and the like will be packed with vital stuff so EVERYYHING gets unpacked.
The moving in shouldn't be to bad -- it's the moving out I dread. I've got a dishwasher, couple window AC units, lawn mower, snow blower, some fancy wood working tools, some big commercial style ladders and a few other things I don't want to just toss I'm going to have sell or even give away.
And books -- I'll be donating so many books to the library they will have to build a new wing. The Dorothy Got To Hell Out Of Town Wing.

We closed on our house down here June 30th. My dh (note: the "d" doesn't stand for "darling" at this moment) - he's been away on business for most of the time since we got here! So I'm the one lugging in most of the furniture by myself. At least I got half of the garage emptied out so I can fit my car inside at night (crazy storms here).
I made sure he set up the computer before leaving though.
The bright side - I can set up the house the way I want it - lol.

Oh, I really do hate moving. Luckily we finally move out of our 2 bedroom apartment and into a 4 bedroom house, so we won't be moving again for quite a while. Hopefully a good 7 years, at least. We started moving 3 weeks ago, and we still aren't unpacked. And we've realized that even when we do unpack, we won't have nearly enough furniture to make the place look reasonable. :whacky: The kitchen was the first room to be unpacked, but all the other rooms are lagging behind. DH is leaving on Wednesday for a consulting job and won't be back for 2 weeks -- I'd like to surprise him with a more organized house..but I'm not sure if I'll have the energy with classes starting again on Wednesday too. Anyway, good luck to everyone who is moving!

oh look at you, Kaitlinnegan, "DH-ing" with the best of them! You must have been married all of a month! Happy birthday for last week - in our first flat we had so little furniture is was relieved by the tumbleweed blowing past. Believe me, you will accumulate clutter faster than can be thought possible.

Moving is horrible, no two ways about that. I always found when I was left alone I could sort out a room with no problem. It was when everyone made "suggestions" that things got dragged out.

I've moved eight times and it was always a nightmare. When I remarried 18 years ago, hubby and I bought a house and moved in. I had to work that day we moved and when I got home the living room and dining room looked like we had lived there forever. He said he finished those two rooms so when we wanted to quit unpacking, we could sit in one room with no boxes and just relax. What a great stress reliever that was. He was off all that week so he just unpacked one room at a time with my daughter and I helping at night and it was done in no time. Best move I ever made (including him)

I've decided to live forever - so far, so good.

I hate moving and always have. I have put off my tentative retirement plan for over 3 years.

As some of you know I am awaiting the birth of my first grandchild (due today - nothing happening!). I am currently in Ontario. I arrived 2 weeks ago in Toronto in all that heat - one day was 50 c with the humidex factored in (whatever that means - gasp). My daughter was in the middle of a move and fortunately had done most of the packing done and movers booked, all the while grieving leaving her wonderful and convenient little house in Toronto. I spent one entire day reading sitting on a step in front of the small and only air conditioner! Two fans elsewhere were only moving hot air and cat hair. Fortunately her husband works all day and my daughter and I are close as I don't recall wearing many clothes each day until evening, when we had to go out for meals. I have nothing but admiration for my rather large and enlarging daughter (who only started mat leave 3 days before I arrived). She was and continues to be brutal in throwing things out, organized in packing and dilegent in having quite a few naps and .... snapping. I tend to feel like an extra piece of furniture, except in the nursery which was only organized 2 days ago. Moving day rained and was very long but well organized and we are slowly but surely unpacking but now in a house with ac .... and 3 floors! She was unsure when to move as was unable to get physicians in Waterloo ... but did eventually and this week has visited all. So now we rest and wait. On cooler days she has even taken us shopping to a few places. She has every book ever written on pregnancy, delivery and child care and needs absolutely nothing (I didn't realize so many things available today). I have not used the little sewing machine I brought with me for very many things. But somehow I cannot convince her we really do need to buy an infant bathtub! :nervous: So... more bags are packed according to the surprising list from the hospital and we wait and respond to her husbands 2 hourly phone calls. This is so much fun?

Nancy --
You just reminded me of when we moved across country pregnant.
This move is just a few miles and a few old person aches is not nearly as uncomfortable as pregnant.
Maybe I'll stop whining now.
But I probably won't.

As I read all the posts about moving, all I could envision was everyone toting around heavy boxes.

Please, please, please, all of you in the middle of moving...........remember to bend at the knees when lifting those boxes.

Funny story -The first day of an internship at a library and we were working at a storage warehouse going through archives. A young man was there lifting heavy boxes and I brazenly went over to him and told him that he needed to lift those boxes correctly. I told him that I couldn't bear to think of him hurting himself with a back injury

Later in the day, I was introduced to the young man, who, choke, choke, was the university head of special collections. Choke, choke. I was embarassed, and he informed my supervisors that we had already met (but he knew I was right). :bolt:

Not a funny story - not being able to hug those babies or little kidlets because you can't move.

well... the computer was a necessity :bluewink: as my 9 year old was going into internet withdrawl!!
But, progress has been made, the kidlets rooms are all done, the living room and kitchen are finished, the office... halfway there (as is the master bedroom, it has become the dumping ground) and the dining/sewing room is still cardboard! :bluesad: But I did get my dress off to Threads and it made it through customs (the fedex dude had me scared to death with the new regulations, but as it will be returing to me later they didn't care :nc: much about it).
Now I'm booking a trip to Niagara falls for next week b/c we all get to go to Marineland (sing the goofy song "everyone loves marineland' in your head over and over, 'cause this is what my daughter has been doing since her dad thought this was a good idea :bang: I HATE theme parks, especially ones where you get wet!)
Dorothy my best friend during this move was a big box of garbage bags!! I had two piles, Donate and Toss, :bg: I also gave a lot of stuff away including an airconditioner, many plants, kiddie toys etc. Have fun!

I've also moved pregnant (8 months, in Aug, I had Fred Flintstone feet) at least the baby had the decency to wait till we were in the house for a week before he arrived, that was my move home to NS, my mom and sister unpacked while I told them where to put everything, best moving ever :bluewink: Get the baby tub!!, I liked the ones with the molded bottoms so you didn't have to hold onto the slippery little one while washing their hair etc.

I called the cable company and can get Internet on Friday the 25th. We have to pay rent from then, so moving is that weekend. Next weekend.
The movers were supposed to come give an estimate today but he called and asked to postpone until Saturday morning. I was glad, really, because my husband is here then and can help with the this-stays-and-this-goes decisions. So far everything has happened on week days while he is working so guess who has to deal with it.
It sure is good to have the commitment on the house sale, though. That was really a pain.
This weekend I hope to get some packing -- winter clothes, books, CDs, maybe some fabric and other things that I won't need for the week -- done.
I just want it to be over.
My neighbor is planning to pack up a bunch of fresh vegetables from her garden for us to take because she is afraid they won't have any in the city.
And the little guys... I've watched the babies grow up on both sides. They are always running back and forth through my yard. Ages range from about 3 (little Will grew so fast) to 8 or 9. I'm gonna miss those kids.

Maybe you can rent some kids when you get moved in? I bet there are lots of moms willing to let their kids run back and forth through your yard

There are bunches of kids running around here. I took a chair out and watched a game of football a couple days ago.
Mostly it was just a girls beat up the boys kind of thing.
Fun though.
