I am making my daughter's wedding dress and it is a gored pattern with lots of curves. I may have made a mistake by making french seams, but have this thing with it being pretty inside and out, but... what direction do I press the seams? From the center toward the underarm or toward the front center? It seems like it would be toward the underarm, but it does pucker a little when I push them that way, but haven't taken the iron to it, yet. Any ideas?

I know this may sound weird...but can you press them flat ??? If you press one way it puckers...if you press another way it might make a line...I'd turn the seams to the outside, making sure you have plenty of padding on the board, work slow, with a cooler iron and iron them flat.

I've done it before and I know it can be done...it just takes some time and a little work.

Are you trying to press them flat? Use a dressmaker's ham, a damp presscloth (not wet) and you should be able to press the seams whichever way you want. I prefer to press toward the side seams, too. Since you did french seams it will take a little bit more care, but the result will be fabulous.
