Hello everyone, I have not been able to sew for a while due to some family problems but when I was sewing I learned a lot from you great memebers of this forum and I thank you for that. I have a question, I would like to make a flared skirt out of medium weight fleece do you think that will work? the Pattern calls for garbardine, wool blends etc. (butterrick 3576 A) if that helps I don't know how to send a picture. I would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thank you sewfree04 |

Fleece can be used for all kinds of things. It sews easily and doesn't require special finishes. I'm sure that it would make up very well. I think that it would maybe be a fun and comfortable thing to wear around the house. I don't know if it would be very flattering because fleece seems bulky. I've made some cute winter overalls and jumpers, jackets, etc out of it for children and it was just fine. I'd probably give it a shot, it may just be the best thing you ever tried....give us a report if you do!

Did you mean this one? butterrick 3576 (http://store.sewingtoday.com/cgi-bin/butterick/shop.cgi?s.item.B3576=x&TI='3576'&page=1) The description says "A-line, slightly flared, bias skirt, mid-knee has waistband and side zipper," and from the look of it, the flowy drape intended for the design of this skirt would be lost with a fleece. I agree with the recommended fabrics. But if this one's for practice, and it's building you back up so you'll be ready to make yourself a skirt as lovely as the picture, perhaps in a gabardine or even a georgette with a lining, then go ahead and use what you have this time around. Have fun getting back into sewing! I'm glad for you that things have settled down and you can spend a little time on a hobby again.

Yes, that is the skirt I bought this pattern just before things blew-up in my family, and never had a chance to do anything with it and all I have now is this fabric. So with the warnings you guys have given me I will just have some fun with it and practice because I've never cut on the bias either. Thank you Andrea, I'm so glad to get back sewing I'll try anything. Wendy |
