I havent taken a picture yet but I will post ASAP.

My DH is a big VA tech fan and hancocks was having a sale so I ordered a few yard s of the VA tech material they have (you cannot find it anywhere else). My original plan was to make a diaper bag for him to use with the baby BUT....... I was going through my garage this weekend and found a huge pile of junk my BIL had said for us to throw away when they finally came and removed thier house from our garage (long story) There was an infant car seat with two bases, and I thought heck Im gonna clean it up and use it as our spare seat!! Only problem was that after I did wash it I noticed silver fish or moths had gotten to it and it had a very questionable stain in it. I took it out and sized it up, went into my slowly depleting stash of fabric and thought for a while. Nothing was neutral, but then brilliance struck and I said I will use the Tech material and it can be DH car seat!!!

It came out soo nice!! I only was stuck for a minute trying to decide what to use as ribbing for the canopy part but I just cut them out of the old one and continued. I also found out that if you put your button holes in and double them side by side they are the perfect size for the straps!!!

Just had to share I will get pics ASAP I promise! :dave:

Well she can't have him just flopping around in the back seat, can she?

It's great when it comes together Stephi, well done. And I am sure your hubby will be proud of his baby - VA tech or not. Good use of material!

It was scarey for a moment their thinking your husband needes a diaper bag - introduce himm to Tena Lady!

Heres some pics of the cover. Its kinda hard to see because the material is busy but it really did come out nice!! you may also see the nap mat I made for my D. Its dora material with a flannel back on the blanket and an attached pillow case. This came out nicer than I thought it would too but man getting that big ol thing up to the machine was a pain!!!

Very original carseat cover. Everyone will be calling you for one.
Where were you when I was trying to make a mat for my niece for school? I had to make hers 3in thick because they sleep on concrete. Trust me it looked bad. Your daughter is beautiful in her green dress. Keep up the good work and thank you for showing.

Catherine, That nap mat was a wreck to get together. My Ds room has carpeting but theres no fluffyness to it so essentially she is on concrete too. I made it out of desperation becasue walmart only had frog nap matts and she wasnt going to have that! I only hope it washes ok, I tried to tack the flat filler down a bunch so hopefully it will.

Thanks, no I am not taking orders right now for car seat covers, LOL!! But hubby was totally tickled to death with this!! :bluesmile

Great job Stephi!! That's something I'd have to think about for a while before attempting. You did a super job. He will be the envy of all the other dads!! And the nap mat is really cute, did you use a pattern for it? Does it zip up into the bag?
