Well, I haven't been on lately...didn't even know the SWN site had been down! My niece came for a visit last Tuesday and stayed until Saturday (I drove her home on Saturday evening. She came to visit and to go with me and my friend on a quilt shop hop around the outskirts of Ottawa. We were going all day Friday and Saturday.

Before going on the shop hop, she went with me to some fabric stores. When we visited Fabricville on Wednesday p.m. and she found some breast cancer fabric, her first question was "We would be able to make a quilt tomorrow, eh, Aunt Judy!" I definitely must have had a "senior" moment and agreed that we could do it....she really wanted to learn to quilt. Once we started, I said that if she wanted to learn she might as well do everything. So I would show her what to do and she would have to continue. Through determination and "late" nights, we started cutting out the blocks on Wednesday evening at 10:00 p.m. and we got the binding sewn on Friday Night (errrr... early Sat. morning). All that was left was to hand sew the binding to the back. Kelly will be doing that at her home.

She did everything except for the quilting. She tried free motion and realized that it was something that you really need to practice...and she wasn't ready to compromise and do straight lines with the walking foot. So I volunteered to do the quilting for her. The quilting that was done was all her idea and she chose all the fabrics. Here's a pic of my friend and Kelly (Kelly's first quilt (http://www.flickr.com/photos/heyjudee/221243422/)). She's going to be giving it to her grandmother who is a 2 year bc survivor.

Now I trying to recuperate from her visit!

You guys did a beautiful job. What a great gift to her Grandmother. I know she will be so proud. I can just see her calling all her friends over for tea and showing off her new quilt.

Judy, what a wonderful gift you have given Kelly and in return Kelly can give to her G'ma. Kelly, I am sure, will emulate you and continue to pass on quilting to those she loves.

Hearing your story has made my day!
