I'm a bit stressed out from moving. So Sunday night I pull out some yarn I was going to crochet a poncho out of. Nice simple, soothing, repetitive motions. It's one of those new fancy yarns with lots of colors and a lumpy texture. I make my chain, but I can't really see the chains right because of the texture and end up not counting correctly in the first row. Once I finish the first row I'd be fine, but after pulling the first row out several times (four or five at least) I put it down and go to bed. Monday I packing up some old needle work and find a circular knitting needle (or is it circular knitting needles? No, it is only one object). I cast on as many stitches as it will hold and start knit a row purl a row. Well... mostly, although there is a spot in the first row where I think I purled where I should have knitted. I don't know how wide it will be but I'm going to keep going until I run out of yarn. So it's not as fancy as knitting guts -- but with this move driving me crazy all those colors look a little like my brain is feeling right now!! Dorothy |

I am touched, deeply touched a young Padowan Apprentice of my Very Own, You can call my Qui-Gon Jann. I'll have to see if I can find you a copy of Pam Ayres poem "Thoughts of a Late Night Knitter" The only line I can remember at the moment is "knit one, drop one, bundle up the knitting and bung it in the bin" love and kisses, Jan

The Tale of Two Cities - the woman knitting as the heads, one by one, were whacked off........ and then there is Dorothy, bwhahahahahahaha, knitting as reports on the local politics for the community. Patty, I seriously thought about taking my knitting to the county meeting last night to see if anyone caught the reference. A friend of mine was once town supervisor of the town of Genoa. He told me about his first meeting. There was a woman from the faction he defeated in a very contentious election sitting in the front row of the resident's section knitting. All he could think of was Madam What's Her Name (sorry I'm drawing a blank it was a late night) sitting there knitting as the heads one by one.......... He said he asked her latter if it was deliberate but she didn't get the reference. Dorothy |

Madame Defarge was the woman knitting. We read Tale of Two Cities when I was in 8th grade; the story engrossed me. But Defarge knitting was a brilliant detail for Dickens to include into the story line. I read once about a quilt that detailed courtroom accounts of a murder case. I thought there were such similarities in the activity of the knitting and quilting. Dorothy......tomorrow we drop off our daughter at school and then, and THEN.......I am going to sit and regain some sanity. The Bed & Breakfast is CLOSED. (Dorothy knows I don't run a Bed & Breakfast; it's just kids home visiting during the summer and kicking back relaxing while they fill out their meal menus ) Good bye to the summer tourists! Next Tuesday I'm in your neighborhood again in the evening to give a workshop on collection care. Call me so I can come play organizing your sewing room. Or, we can organizing some playing. Or....we can just play. I finished hand quilting the author/illustrator quilt and now I'm onto other projects. Patty

Patty -- Unless you are on Onondaga Hill it won't be my neighborhood after tomorrow. I'll call over the weekend if I get a chance or on Monday. Today I wrote this week's feature and got all my interviews done for next week. Then I packed (well I had these hurricane packing ladies in to pack and I kinda helped a little). Then I went to a school board meeting for the radio -- former teacher accused the Superintendent of plagiarism in the school district news letter -- Patty knows the story from newspaper accounts. I'm exhausted and still have to edit the sound bites from the meeting. Tomorrow I have some routine typing, more packing, and a city council meeting. Then I move. Then I'm done and come out to play. Or you can come to my new townhouse to play. I'll show you the pod people neighbors. It took seven large boxes to hold just my fabric! Dorothy |

ooooooh Dorothy are you moving to Stepford?? I used to live in a pod people neighbor hood, they freaked when I yanked up all the juniper landscaping trees (I hate junipers, nasty things) and planted roses, and then in the fall I let my kids plant tulip bulbs randomly over the entire lawn

Jeanette -- One time I planted tulips all over the lawn. Learned my lesson in the spring when it was time to mow. Dorothy |

Well, Here I am. I have joined the pod. There is card board every where. Just when I thought I had the kitchen finished my husband showed up with another box!! I have to cut up my curtains to make them fit the new windows. But there are shades until I get to it. I will have to do the sewing room last or the rest of the placed won't get unpacked. Lucy has already made friends with a pod something-poo and a pod wiener dog. Mary, I'm not sure what the pod people are. I'm investigating. I'll tell you when I find out. It will be easy to investigate now that I have infiltrated. Dorothy |
