I want to make my daughters each a fun colorful jacket to wear this fall. It seems to get rainy and drizzly in the fall. Is it possible to make the jackets waterproof? How? Thanks, Liz |

Can't really answer your question Liz but the first thing that comes to my mind is to check with a sporting goods or camping store and see what they suggest for waterproofing.

Interesting archive on Scotchguard. Just curious if any of you remember the Great American Quilt Festival held in New York City out on the Pier and sponsored by the Museum of American Folk Art. This coincided with the 100th Anniversary of the Statue of Liberty and quilts came in from every state with the Lady Liberty theme. (We're talking 1986). One of the sponsors of the contest was Scotchguard and it was originally stated that the quilts were to be sprayed with Scotchguard. Some of the quilting community realizing that the long term effects of the product were not proven and as a result they lifted the Scotchguard requirement when entering your quilt. In my early days, I tugged along three little kids to that Quilt Festival and forgetting that they were vertically challenged all they remembered seeing were quilter's behinds and purses swinging at them. I use iron on Vinyl on the inside of the outer layer of my cloth diapers. It keeps the wetness in and not on me. You can also search for people that can apply PUL to a fabric. It can get expensive but it is what most people use for diapers. |

It's me again, sorry I took so long. According to the Sew News, www.mountaingear.com has a variety of spray-on and wash-in fabric treatments, and suggests you visit the website to judge which is appropriate for your project.
