I have to buy a new sewing machine and have narrowed it down to a Pfaff (2046?) or maybe an Elna. I really would like to stay around the $600-$1000 mark. This will be my first computerized machine and they look like they can do just about anything. What machines do you like? I would love to hear about some of them. |

Craftigal I have a 2044 which is the forerunner of the 2046, but where have you seen a 2046 for around $1000? The last time I priced them, they were in excess of $2000. Anyway, I really like my 2044 and have had no problems at all with it. Patsy Patsy

I tried to post this already and seem to have lost it. So if it shows up twice please forgive. I have a diffinate personal preference but both are good machines (You didn't mention an Elna model but I am assuming it is a good one if you are comparing it to the 2046).. My biggest concern would be which dealer you feel will best serve you. Brand A might be a better machine but without good support you might be better off with Brand B. (I do not feel this is the proper forum for me to promote a brand since I am a dealer). Ask about classes, ask to see the classroom, find out if repairs & servicing are done on-site or if the machine has to be sent off. It's always good to be able to speak directly to the repairman and threaten to burn his house down if he doesn't treat your baby right. I don't know how Janome is handling the dealer transition as they the take over distribution of Elna so make sure your dealer is planning to continue to carry the Elna line. Your dealer should become one of your best friends. Make sure you feel that he/she can and will provide all the assistance you might need. Have fun or don't do it, Tom

Patsy Patsy, the 2046 just got replace by the 2048 and there are some really good deals on the 2046s right now but you are right. Under $1000 is unbelievable. Have fun or don't do it, Tom
