Dh and I loved to sit in the early evening and watch the Croc Hunter shows.
It's so sad that he has died. At least he was doing what he loved to do, be with wildlife. He always said that it is a dangerous job and both he and Terri knew what risks they where dealing with.
Our hearts go out to Terri and their two children.

I think the Animal World lost a true Hero today.

Those were my sentiments exactly. It's a shame he died so young, may he R.I.P.

A stingray, of all things. Like you, I was saddened to hear the news, but he will not be forgotten.

He was a star - such an unusual event too to die that way.

He was good for the wildlife of the world. You could tell he loved his job. It is very sad.

We loved him over here too and were so sad to hear the news.

He always came across as a really genuine guy who loved his job and his family very much.

He'll be missed by a lot of people.

We got to see him 'live' here in FL, when he filmed for the show, here on the Eglin AFB Range. (right outside my 'city' limits').
Terri, his two kids and the world have lost a kind, caring, gentleman.
He was such a character...and you could always see the love he had for his human family and his animal family.
Somehow you just KNEW he was going to die in a weird way...too bad it was so soon. I think the world needed him for a longer time....

It makes me mad that he died at work. I don't think one time went by whenever I saw him after he had a child (does he only have one?) that I didn't say to my husband, that his interaction with the animals went too far, he risked too much for entertainment. I think it was just the mother in me thinking about his son now, great that everyone says he died doing what he loves, but that won't be much comfort for a little boy growing up without his father. Of course, I realize that it was a 'fluke' they say, the barb piercing his heart...but as soon as I saw his face in the paper, I just felt...awful mad.
I guess maybe it's no different then people with kids in the military, or astronauts, or anyone who puts themselves in harms way on a daily basis...but its just that little voice in my head that kept saying to me, 'he's too close, going just farther then he has to in the name of entertainment...entertainment for cripes sake...I don't imagine many researchers get as close as he got to some of those animals, fish, mammals, whatever. I know he grew up around animals...but I just can't help but feel he thought HE wouldn't ever be hurt, and that gave him a false sense of being safe all the time.

Hmm...I don't know why I feel so mad about him dying. Strange. I think I'm going through some sort of mothering mid life crisis...lots of things make me mad these days, especially when kids are in the picture. Ha...maybe I resent him for getting out and having a life beyond his family.

Okay...I'll stop now. Yes...sad day. I should just say, yes, sad day.

Steve and Terri have two children, Bindi Sue (8yrs old) and Robert (3yrs old).

The one thing that they both stressed above all else was/is how dangerous their jobs are with animals. I don't think that he ever let his guard down, and I know that he regrets taking Bob in the Croc Show when he did. He got a big backlashing about that from the Public.

Above all else whe was a Animal Educator, who knew that his job entailed very high risks. But he accepted that and he made sure that the general public knew it, and that they learned why these animals where so dangerous. But also why they are so beautiful.

We take a chance everyday of our lives by just walking out the door. We might not have what you would call a "glamour job" that allows you to travel the way he did, but it was still just a job to him.

Yes I do agree with you that sometimes they push it to much just for the sake of TV ratings. And with that said this turned out to be another lesson learned at the expense of his life. If you don't risk something you will never learn and be able to teach others what to do or not to do.

Steve was a gentle soul with a very big heart for mankind.
