Hi, I just got an email this morning, said it was from Sew-what's-new, my newletter I thought, instead was just a note from 'Jill @ aol.com' (if I remember that correctly) about some 'money catalogue' to order.

I must say...that's a little...well, I don't know the word I"m looking for, but it's junk mail basically, and shouldn't be coming along with the email I'm expecting for the newsletter, hope that doesn't happen all the time?! At first I thought perhaps it was just a prompt to go visit some sponsors of this site, but really...I'd gladly do that from this site, not from the email...bah...

Was that intentional? Or what. Am I being too cranky..sorry, only on first coffee of the day. Anyway, I'm glad to see the site up and running again!!

I've never received anything like that ffrom SWN. Someone must have grabbed email addresses and sent you SPAM. Only Mary sends SWN newletters and she signs them from herself.

Okay...I'm glad to hear it was likely that. Thanks.

I also got that email, it's probably the result of this last "Hack Job" that Mary had last week.
Just make sure that your firewalls are on and your Anti-Virus programs are up to date. And don't respond to it as that's a sure fire way for them to get into your system. Just delete it.

Please see the homepage for my announcement. This was definitely spam and NOT SENT BY ME. Someone got into my Yahoo account, found my list and spammed everyone.

I have notified Yahoo as well as Sprint where the message apparently originated. Do NOT respond to their message. This is a $$$ scam of epic proportions. They know how large my readership is and infiltrated my account.

I have, as of this morning, alerted the proper authorities and changed all sensitive information. Thank you once again for your patience and loyalty. I appreciate it.

When I got mine I realized it was not from mary, I was so mad, how dare someone do something like that. It was deleted, but now has made me wonder about knowing the real deal when Mary sends the next letter.

I got one also, but recognised it as spam. I did not open it:but instead used the block sender option.

I too received it but knew that Mary had nothing to do with it!!! It is a $2.00 per person scam. Since they are using the US postal service to send this money to that address in MO, it is a federal offence if I am not mistaken.

My Gmail spotted it as Spam and I had to check my Spam to see if I even got one. I got two.

This is the first time someone has hijacked my yahoo subscription accounts. Apparently that is very good, I guess I should feel grateful. :nervous:

Anyway, I have taken steps to prevent this from happening again. I just know things are going to be easier from here on.

This is what they now call spoofing. It is hacking into accounts to send spam out. I am always careful to notice if my newsletters are the real deal or fraudulent. The best way to stop this sort of thing is to let the adminstrators know right away and copy and paste the original email so they can report and shut them down. I usually get at least one a week from what is supposed to be Paypal. By reporting, it helps protect us all.

I'm such a newbie to such things, and I guess that's a good thing. That's the first email I've ever recieved from someone who hacked the email of someone I get mail from (did that make sense!). It caught me quite off guard...and I was in a mood the other day to top it off.

Thanks Mary. Keep up the great work.

I currently have a great way to stop spam mail -- I simply reply that this e-mail has been traced and is being reported to the Oklahoma Attorney General's Division of Consumer Fraud and I don't receive anymore e-mails from that site. I guess once I retire next year I can still use the same fix.
