Who has thought about costumes? I just saw a great idea for a beauty queen. One fancy dress and a very wide ribbon across shoulder and down. Buy letters and put their city and state or whatever on it. Make a crown from tin foil and you have your local beauty pageant started.

For our Halloween party this year we are all dressing up as Crayons. The GC haven't decided yet what they want to be, but a box of Crayons is sounding so easy this year. Usually I am making all these fancy adult costume for the party.

My DD's cheer squad all dressed as crayons for camp one day. They were the "cheer-olas". It was super cute and easy.(FYI- They spray painted toy soccer cones for their heads.) She is making her own costume this year.(She is the only one that will still dress up - all others are too old, She will be a pirate, along with half the kids at her jr. high thanks to Pirates of the Car. II. I will definately take pictures when she finishes. My DGS is due Nov. 1. So I may possibly be making a teeny-tiny costume in a rush if he comes early. Any suggestions? Other than a pea pod. |

This year Lizzy has decided she is going to be baby minnie mouse and Daddy is going to be Mickey and me Minnie. I will be working on those in the next few weeks. Greg (DH) says he cant wait to go this year. I think he is getting use to dressing up. Afew years ago we went as Raggedy anne and family. Yes he was Raggedy andy so cute.Last year he was a dog me a cat and the kids birds. So while I am thinking about it does anyone know how to make Mickey mouse shoes? The big white ones I want us to be very much like the real thing.

I always make costumes for my kids - anything from zombie cheerleaders, mummies, fairies, and zebras. This year the youngest two have decided to be 'Dementors' from the Harry Potter movie. So that's what I'm making for them. Should be interesting, since the actual characters were filmed under water to give the floating effect. Raven

Well, I've got one medieval serving wench, a couple of fairy princesses and one Magical Mystery Tour costume coming right up. These are the ones who heeded my warning and advice to place their orders as early as possible since it costs more the faster I have to work. I completed a Lady In Waiting costume in mid-August (another medieval piece) for a woman who is also in the SCA. So, she'll be using her costume quite a bit. Kate Katherine McCrea

Sounds like you are all going to have some big fun in the next month. I don't have anyone to make a costume for this year. The munchkin already has a costume from a friend, so unless I find another grandkid to adopt for Halloween I'll just have to sew for me.

Libby, draw a side view of the shoe. I imagine you want the toe tips to turn up...or you going to put bells on them? Measure around an average size foot and add a couple of inches. Divide this measurement in half and that is your measurement for 1/2 of your shoe top from middle sseam to floor. Are they to be ankle high shoe covers? Curve the middle seam line up a few inches, maybe 2-1/2 to 3 inches . Take an ankle reasurement and add abouy 2". Divide in half and and draw a line from the center top seam across that far. Then Draw a straight line down to the bottom or floor line.Thiis should look like a low boot or high-topped shoe from the side. Add a 1/2" seam allowance around it. Sew up the middle seam and the bac seam. Put a short piece of elastic across the bottom to hold the shoe cover in place. Sometimes, depending on the kind of shoes they have on (tennies would be best), they have to take them off, put the shoe covers on their feel, then put the shoes back on and arrange the covers over them. Hope this helps! MariLynntex |

I have a question and need some help, please. My son wants to be a 'dragon' for halloween. I have not seen any dragon costumes and really am at a loss to make one.. any tips? I do not have much $.. ok, I have NO $ to spend on buying him one, and honestly, I would not buy one if I did have the $ to do so. I am looking for something that maybe he and I can do together. BTW, He is 11 yrs old. Thanks Casey |

I hit the 99 cent pattern sale at Joanns a while back and got the Tom Arma pattern and am going to make my youngest a skunk. My oldest wants to be a cheerleader so I got a pattern for that too. We are going to do her school colors and put the school letters on the top. I am so excited! |
