Here is what can happen when you live among the old oak trees! http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/keljo60/album?.dir=/e77fre2&.src=ph

No, no one was hurt, no damage done. DH & I were standing by the back of the truck talking when we heard cracking and started looking around. Then we saw the limb starting to break and just watched it slowly lower the end to the ground! I'm waiting for the power company to come and get it down before it falls and breaks the power line directly under it! Since we bought this property I have been concerned with that limb breaking! Guess I don't have to worry any longer! At least there wasn't any damage!

EEK....thats like the 30ft tree that landed in our back yard (from next door) during hurricane Ivan. It smacked into our 30ft tree, took down the fence and if it had landed just about 5 ft towards the house, it would have taken out our septic tank. (which we'd just had re-paired....the whole neighborhood has had to repair their septic tanks). You all were lucky it landed slow, in no wind and didn't hit anything...
Oaks are very pretty (for the most part) and various kinds live in FL, but they're a pain in the a** sometimes.

Chrys, fortunately we've only had to have our tank pumped. We've lived with septics for the last 12 years, and, knock on wood, no major problems.

Yes, Amy, it is definitely a beautiful piece of property! I love it! There are some really huge mature oaks around it, as you can see in the picture. DH goes and sits under the trees whenever he can, sometimes I join him, if I'm not on the puter or sewing!

The power company finally got here last night about 8 or so to cut it down, and of course, it was raining! They waited in their truck for about 15 mins. for it to let up and to decide how they were gonna tackle the limb. They finally turned the truck around and used the cherry picker to cut off the big part on the bottom up to the joint, then cut the rest that was hanging over the line into 3' sections and let them drop. They made a point to let me know that they would only cut the limb down and not do the clean-up! Now dh has to get a chainsaw somehow and finish the job. That's gonna be fun!

Although it's a shame when these old trees lose limbs, what a blessing that your house, truck, family were spared any damage.
