I am hoping that someone here can help me. I have a moses basket for soon to be grandson. It is a basic Moses basket without the hood. I want to make the bedding for it to match some other items I have made. I have been looking for a pattern, but no luck. Does anyone have any pointers? I also would like to make several "sheets" for the pad, but have never even seen any that you can buy. Any suggestions?

Thanks!!!

For sheets: Lay pad on paper and draw around it, measure depth of pad and add, add seam (like a bullseye) same can be done oval, ect. If you have a serger, serge elastic around outside edge, turn and pull flat as you topstitch.
Hope this helps

Bumper Pad?: measure around bottom (outside is ok)and again around top, and how tall the sides are. Make a paper "band" those dimentions, there is your pattern add seam allowance to the ends ( how tall measurement).
cut 2.
I used a cotton mattress pad from another bed that the sides had ripped for the inside of bumper three times thickness.
I used the same only single thickness as quilt batting for the blankets.
As for the blankets I traced the bottom of the basket and added about 5" to the diameter ( like a bullseye) cut 2 and those were my "quilt" tops and bottoms.

I hope I have explained it better than it sounds to me LOL

Thanks Bekka!!

I love the mattress pad idea!

How did you get the bumper pads to stand up? (Like in a crib you tie them to the rails). I understand the directions you gave except for the sheets (very, very novice at sewing). What kind of opening did you leave to put the pad in and out of? And at the opening did you only attach the elastic to one thickness of material. I do not have a serger but have gotten decent at zigzagging elastic on. And apeaking of elastic- did you cut it a little shorter than the actual circumference of the sheets? Sorry for all the questions, I have never done anyhting like this without a step by step pattern. And even though it is very intimidating it is something I really want to attempt.

Thanks again!!!!

Bumper pads get tied to the basket handles, or use velcro tabs. The sheets are just one thickness of fabric, (imagine a table cloth held inplace, on a table, by elastic all the way around). The "pad" used to make the sheets pattern is the mattress of the moses basket. If you don't have a mattress for the basket I'll tell you how to make one, but don't want to confuse you by adding it here now.
Your more than welcome.

Yes you cut the elastic smaller. If the elastic is solid and stiff (taking lots of effort to pull) cut about 3 or 4 inches. but if it is soft and easy to stretch cut about 1/4 of the total off. example:
If total is 12" cut elastic 3" shorter.

Ok - I get it!! I do have the matress. I had totally misunderstood the sheet directions. I thought you were making something like a pillow case with elastic to put the mattress into. Now I am getting excited about starting this!!

Thanks so much!!!!
