in a few days...I looked up what I CAN'T take with me on the plane..
NO pick axes, blow torches, sabers, electric saws, breast milk (unless accompanied by a baby:nc: ), no canned heat, shovels, no box cutters, ice picks, hammers, gel shoe inserts, no blasting caps, no dynamite...this is only a partial list. I can't believe what they won't let you bring on a plane, because I didn't know people actually BROUGHT stuff like that on a plane...blow torches ???..electric saws ???...dynamite ???
I like the one about the baby and the breast milk...:bg:
I was just checking because I have a lot of prescription meds, pills, liguid and aersol. (for my asthma.)
They're real nice though..the NTSB...if you're a diabetic you can take your supplies..

We have just been through a phase where you were only allowed to carry passport, ticket prescription meds(only if accompanied by a prescription) and a pair of glasses ( no case) in a plastic bag as hand luggage - nothing else. Can you imagine being with a child on long haul under those conditions! or even me! You could carry aby food/ milk if you were prepared to eat it yourself in front of witnesses.

How about if you sneak the breast milk aboard in your breasts....

Chrys. Just having returned from a flight across Canada it is indeed interesting what you can take and not take. Our airlines (I traveled on 2 different airlines) are cutting costs so food is limited on a flights, even long flights. One airline welcomed you bring along snacks and the other made no mention. The restrictions on fluids came about while I was away making it a little confusing when planning what to take on board to come home. It really frustrated me as I drink a lot of cold water and like to take frozen water bottles. When I got home I read that the airlines water quality was questionable! Fortunately I didn't drink much as it tasted terrible and was warm.

Re what people take on board. Several years ago there was a report in our local newspaper about a machete with some 'substance' on that was confiscated on a plane that was landed here. It was confiscated on the plane so I don't know how it ever got through security. I am always surprised at the big bundles of fresh flowers people bring on board - how they hold them in flight and what they look like at the other end.

I took a small sewing machine with me and the men at security hads some sort of gismo to check it out while the women at security all wanted to talk about it. On one plane a passenger reamed me out as I put it up in luggage holder complaining that it could fall and kill someone - it weighted less than most of the briefcases being stowed and was smaller than the duffle bags that many of the young people had, but I guess she liked to control the situation.
Have a safe journey and enjoy.

What IS the world coming too?
How can one travel without those essentials?

I went to San Francisco many years ago and brought back a loaf of wonderful sourdough bread and good Napa Valley wine. My husband wanted me to bring him a crab too. I refused saying I wasn't going to make the person in the seat next to me put up with the smell of a dead crab all the way across country.
So I get on the plane and guess what the guy next to me was bring home for dinner.
Yup, wine, bread and a smelly crab.

A lot of people here bring lobster back from the maratimes. They even have special boxes for it.

ON the medication get your DR to give you a letter saying you must travel with medication A, B, and C on your person and the airlines won't be able to refuse you.

I've never understood the difference between a sharp pencil and a crochet hook or even a knitting needle regarding air travel??

Same with cell phones in cars. I'm for making it illegal to use one while driving. I don't see however, that it's all that different from eating while driving or dealing with screaming kids in the back...........

Talking on the phone, eating or drinking is an offence if performed while driving here in the UK - but not, of course, lighting up a fag. NOt that I have ever heard of anybody fined for being on th ephone even if they are driving dangerously..

mind you - your hand luggage cannot contain pool cues, baseball bats, tweezers, household cutlery, tweezers, cosmetics, any toiletries, any drinks, deodourant...
we all are a fright and look dehydrated...desperate for a game of pool and the need to pluck our chin hairs and that is an internal flight.

The thing that always gets me with the cell phones is that in New York you can dial or answer them and talk without hands (speaker or ear phone). To me it seems like the most distracting time is dialing or putting the phone on speaker or putting the ear phone in.

Tony has one of those ear thingies (gadget man)that you tap and then dial by voice recognition. Trouble is you are chatting away to yourself talking to the voices in your head. They used to put people away for that......

My dh has one of those too. Glad to have him use it while in the car (sounds like he's talking from a dumpster) but he better not wear it around me any other time. Looks so silly.

It was just announced yesterday that Arnold Schwartzeneggar signed a bill making it illegal to use cell phones while driving in Calif. starting in June of 2008! Why then and not sooner? He might not even be Gov. then. Get this. The first offense is a whole big fat $20.00and every offense thereafter is $50.00.

I have trouble imagining cops wanting to spend their precious time pulling people over for it at all.

Emergency personnel (of which dh is one), emergency situations, and towtruck operators (??:nc: ) are exempt.

I have a drawer full of small nail files because I have replaced one each time I fly (they are confiscated). I have often thought that I could do more damage with the pens and automatic pencils I keep in my purse. Many years ago before security became what it is today I had knitting needles confiscated (were given back at end of line), yet on return leg took a 12 place setting set of cutlery on in a paper bag!

Re cell phones - I don't know how people talk and drive with them. I don't use mine much but once when driving it did ring and got me all rattled as I was making a left turn in heavy rush out traffic. Even before this I thought they shouldn't be used while driving. I have always believed one should pull over before swatting the kids or lightin cigs, etc. I can't understand people having social conversations in a loud voice while buying produce or other groceries. I hate shopping so much I can hardly wait to get out of there. Unfortunately it seems to be the place I run into everyone I know and haven't seen for awhile. :re:

Sheri - I have done the lobster bit - went into checked luggage which is colder place- yumm.

The only thing I ever brought that was questionable was 6 bottles of Cruzan Rum. And of course I carried it on because would you trust baggage handlers with your rum. I wouldn't.

The only time I have ever had trouble at an airport was in Oklahoma. We had been on a cross country ride and I had to come home ASAP. All I had to carry on the plane was a pillow case stuffed with a few clothes and my riding gear, which was a helmet, chaps, and a leather jacket. They wanted to keep my helmet. Why I do not know, never did find out. I wouldn't let them have it and they finally let me get on board.

Funny what you talk about in quilt shops while waiting to be served in a shop[ about 18months ago - the lady before me was purchasing some more embroidery scissor 'cause hers were confiscated at the security check (she forgot that they were in her purse) but wait for it ladies they let her keep her rotary cutter:whacky: she told them it was a quilting aid when they asked her what it was - we all know the damage those beasties can do
