I made this shirt. It has soutash on it and button holes were a bit of an issue. I didn't want to do a satin stitch over the soutash. I thought it would be bumpy, uneven and sloppy looking.
Bound button holes wouldn't be much better.
My daughter suggested frogs. She would put frogs on everything. But I'm not crazy about the darn things.
But loops -- now that's an idea.
The problem was, the facing is just folded under, not sewn on. If the loops were coming from underneath the facing would pull away from the front. If they were sewn on the top, there would be the ugly place where the ends meet.

So I made a kind of figure 8. I tacked it down on the "hole" side in about four places and put a button on the ugly ends.

I removed the soutash from a scrap to make the loops from.

Dorothy,

Wonderful top and great alternative to the humdrum button holes. Good for you. Wear it with pride!

Dorothy,
I was faced with the same problem on a fleece top that I made a few years ago. I ended up making little fleece button loops and using a thick needle threaded them thru the fabric. I was not as clever as you are. It was one of my first serging projects. Great Job!!!
Happy Stitching!

Dorothy - Did you sew on all that soutash yourself? If so it is more impressive than the closure, which is clever.

No, I can't take credit for that. That would be impressive.
I wore the shirt yesterday. I put a few safety pins in my pocket when I left the house just in case but the loops worked just fine.
