I am going to be sewing a large curtain to serve as a backdrop, and have been given 52" wide 21oz. velour. I don't have much experience sewing with velour and wondered if anyone has some hints to make it a smooth and successful project. Thanks in advance!:bg:

I would just treat it like a fleece. By all means use a long stretch stitch and a long stretch overcast to finish the edges.

Good luck. The volumes of fabric will make it challenging.

I worked on some velour this summer helping my daughter use it as borders on her college quilt.

Velour has a nap, so make sure you cut the curtain pieces to join them (if you're doing that) with the nap in the same direction. In other words, if you stand back both pieces will look identical rather than one being light and one dark (the nap reflects light differently).

It might be benefical to use some kind of twill tape on the seam to give it support. I also found it easier to sew the velour with my walking foot (even feed foot).

Measure twice, cut one (or rip once).
