MY TURN TO VENT. I took yesterday off work as I had carefully co-ordinated the Washing Machine repair Man and the Bed Delivery Man to arrive on the same day. So washing machine man arrived (NOTE SMALL LETTERS NOW - HE IS NO LONGER MY SUPER HERO) and took 72 minutes to take the drum off the machine, replace the worn bearings , put the drum back on the machine, and discover the electrics no longer worked. Take it apart again, put it back together and completely knacker the electrics so that it can no longer do anything and burn out the motor. I was Not Impressed. During this time bed delivery man phoned (NOTE SMALL LETTERS) to say that the van had popped its clutch and it wouldn't be mended until tomorrow and could they arrange for me to be in then. "No." I said. "I have taken the day off school and I cannot arrange cover for another day. Besides - I have thrown the old bed away and my Mother in law and Father in law are coming TODAY to sleep in the new bed." They could only bring the bed the next morning at 8 o clock before I went to work. True to their word they did arrive at that time. So - Tony and I dragged the mattresses off the kids bunk beds and slept on the floor, I now have no washing machine and if I am lucky it might be fixed in the 3rd October but no promises. Meanwhile Tony is off next week as the man is coming to fix the roof where it rains in through the light fitting - but he can't come and fix the machine then as he doesn't have the parts.....the roof leaked at the end of July when we were out at "Shakespere in the park" getting soaked, we have had a sheet of plastic over it since... love and kisses, Jan

Very justifiable rant! Nice to know that delivery/repair problems are the same in your part of the world. We can all bond over that. Do you tip delivery/repair persons? We don't in the States as a rule but I know my relatives in Holland do. take care, Lennie |

Been there done that. I usually ask them to take the delivery charge off and they will usually do that for you. I hope everything works out. If all else fails go blow off steam in the sewing room. Lot of love to you. Catherine

No I don't tip delivery persons - I've never been able to work out the tipping thing - I've eventually worked out some people tip their hairdressers but I reckon I pay so much I am not going to... There was no delivery charge on the bed, so that was OK. I don't actually have a sewing room - nice though it would be - I have a machine in the kitchen and my serger in the office so I have to lug it about... thanks for the hugs! love and kisses, Jan

Here's another hug ((((((Jan)))))). I had a day like that recently too. We switched propane companies and were waiting for them to deliver the new tank. Their prices are much lower but if we had known the trouble we'd run into, we would NOT have switched companies. After trying to get them here for over 3 weeks many many phone calls, they FINALLY called me back. I could never talk to anyone that mattered without at least 3 phone calls and 3 days. They finally gave me an appointment for 2 weeks later. I told them we would run out of propane by then and that when we signed up they told me they could come out within a few days. Funny how they tell you what you want to hear until you sign the contract. They finally said "Well, we'll work you in sometime either Thursday or Friday between 8:00 and 5:00." I don't know what came over me, but after my hormonal fit over the phone, they decided to bring it out AFTER 1:00 on Friday like we first discussed it the day they talked me into switching to their company. I didn't used to act like that. |

The guy who came to mend my washing machine, having replaced the bearing, (the original problem) has ordered 3 spare parts - a motor and 2 electronic boards - all of which were working till he took it apart. I am sorry but when he says "It is such a weird coincidence that they would go wrong when I am here" that I find it hard to believe him. I am too polite to yell "YOU PULLED THE WIRES OUT YOURSELF, YOU PLONKER!" but you can believe it is what I feel. It will be days before they get the parts and will be unable to come when Tony is off with the roof man - I might nag them tomorrow and see if anything is happening. How can they get away with saying "oh we will be with you sometime between 8 and 5 on one of 2 days." Don't these people work to schedules? I hope you get your gas as you need it Bama. love and kisses, Jan

We had to move according the cable/phone/internet company's schedule since I need the phone and internet to do my job. It was not the most convenient time but it was then or at least two weeks later. Dorothy |

[[[ ]]] I knew it wasn't only ME and the repair people... When I got the new (ceran/glass) top for my stove (after I accidently melted the kettle to it), the repair person tried to leave, as I'm standing there with 2 screws in my hand and saying...ah...these weren't leftovers, they go SOMEWHERE and why is the top not fitting if it's the SAME kind.....so he had to re-do the whole thing...oh well..it's not like you have a choice anymore of ANYONE doing their jobs correctly. Used to be you could complain and someone would take care of it, fix it, repair it, LISTEN to you and actually ACT upon the complaint...I remember (and it's the way -I- was brought up)...DO YOUR JOB CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME. DON'T think you're better than ANYONE else, If you can do the job BETTER, do it ! Don't make excuses. and LISTEN. I've had a few of those fits myself...had one today. Told my machine dealer I WAS NOT TAKING 'MY' machine home again. (my Janome 11,000). I didn't spend $7000 for something I can't make work. It's been in the shop 4 times now and I don't think I've embroidered 10 items on it. I've sewn even LESS. It's the first time I've yelled at my machine dealer. I don't think she knew I got mad...(I have a terrible temper and I'm not as patient as most people think...in fact I'm THE most impatient person..I give the impression I'm nice, cause thats what people REALLY want...and I don't like to disappoint them...mostly ) It's the after 50 thing...ya get tired of the same ol..... same ol...and ya let go...because you can.. Miss Jan..tomorrow is another day... [[[ ]]] Kath (the weirdo in FL...and I'm not the only one...) Chrys

Oh Jan you are not going to have a machine until Oct 3rd. I hope you stand down wind of all your pupils with those unwashed clothes. (I couldn't resist that little fun pun.) ROFL I've had more than my share of those days too Jan lately. All we can do is grin and bare it. Although I'd love to have my hands wrapped around some ones pretty little neck when that happens I refuse to lose my cool. Keep smiling girl it will all work out.

Well, I'm handwashing clothes but the sheets and towels and things will have to wait...Tony said "What can I do to help?" "Wash them yourself'" I said - really - was that so hard to work out? love and kisses, Jan

Men must have been born with their brains in backwards. Sorry about all you guys on here but really. My husband is so helpless and when I call him down for some of the things he says and does he acts like i'm picking on him. But really, I know he thinks better than he acts sometimes. That must be hard wringing out towels and jeans. Do you have a place like we have in the states that you can go to wash some things if it gets really piled up before the machine is fixed? I really feel for you Jan. As much as I hate doing the laundry I hope mine never goes out.

Roof repair man was fine and has done a good job - well we will found out HOW good when it next rains. I received a card through the post today telling me my repairman would be back on Monday after 12:00. I had phoned last week and asked for Tuesday after 4 (as the repair man told me I could do) which fits in with my work schedule but NOOOO that is too much. So I phoned to change my appointment - can't do that - "But I booked it already I said", "no, there are no such slots this week or next...." So, got me over a barrel and I have to cancel the after school club I run AGAIN - so far I have lost 2 hours wages and will owe 1 and 1/2 days in lieu! Would it have been cheaper to buy a new machine? love and kisses, Jan

Jan it would have probably been easier if I would have shipped you one from the states. ROFL and cheaper. Just think by next Tuesday it will all be over and you will be smelling nicer too. Let us know how it turns out.

Well, he returned, fitted a part and it still didn't work...I looked at the machine and said "I am not happy with that" restrained 'eh. He replied that he wasn't either. So he phones some anonymous person on the end of his mobile and it appears that they have shipped the wrong part in the box.... fortunately for him he went out to his van and got another one.... So, my machine is now back in working order and now has a) new bearings b)new motor c)new motherboard d) other new electrical thingy. I think he just kept replacing bits till it worked. It didn't need a new motor but I have one now. Smells like a new Scalextric kit wearing in the brushes.mmmm ozone.... We have clean clothes now. love and kisses, Jan
